It seems silly. Conservative this. Liberal that. Conservatives claim they want to support life by being "pro-life" yet they also support war and the death penalty. Liberals claim they want to support life by being anti-war and anti-dealth penalty, but they fall in the "pro-choice" category that terminates unborn children. In the mean time, both sides express hatred for people who aren't like them (i.e. opposite political parties/views). What kind of "people lovers" are mean and hateful to those who simply have different opinions?Someone make some sense of this for me, because I guess I am just not getting it.

Conservatives: Silent majority, make up most of the military, thinks that if someone works hard they can achieve success and achieves this by cutting taxes for everyone, Liberals: The outspoken minority (as seen on this board, you can see who makes most of the threads), thinks that society should care for its citizens and achieves this by raising taxes on the rich. The arguement about abortion is due to different opinions when life actually begins. Conservatives think that this happens when each of us were concieved and that if it was unwanted, then the parents should live with the actions they chose. Liberals put the rights of parents above the rights of the embryo and feel that if it would hurt the parents or if the parents do not want it, then terminate the pregnancy. Abortion has nothing to do with the war. What the government says is dependant on how the constitution is interpreted. Notice the constitiution does not say "born" when giving people basic rights and privillages.
12/8/2005 11:16:02 AM
not all liberals want to tax the rich
12/8/2005 11:17:34 AM
in other words, the majority of america holds values which are not found on this message board. if i posted my stuff on a board with all of america present, i would get a more positive response.

^^^Completely understand the abortion arguement. You're definitely right. It does depend on one's definition of life. I pretty much watered down some of the main conservative/liberal arguements, but more of the "feelings" behind them instead of the actual politics. I guess my point is that everyone claims to be pro-people but hates people that aren't like them. There are flaws all political views because no one has it all figured out yet. I think if Americans could actually admit that they haven't figured it out, then people might start listening to each other and I dont know.. maybe work together? I know I know. Idealistic, yes. So I'm a bit of an optimist. It just pisses me off to see people clinging to their views so much that eventually they are blinded by them. Too much to explain on the internet, but I hope it makes sense. Thanks for the intelligent response.[Edited on December 8, 2005 at 11:21 AM. Reason : ^^^s]

^^not true. I think you're pretty forceful with your comments about hating democrats and liberals. You're the very type of conservative that I am referring to. One that should take a step back and breathe a little.

Well, we generally feel that if the other side got to run things, the country (and the world, too) would go straight to hell in a handbasket. So we have to fight to win control, and if we can't manage that, we at least have to fight to slow the other guy down.Of course, what we do on an internet forum is hardly the most important thing when it comes to this little war, but every little bit helps. If all the Democrats/Lefties on this board convince one Republican to join them (and I've seen it happen on this very board), it's a victory for them.Think of it as WWI. Everyone's going balls-out all the time to beat the other guy, but neither side is really gaining any ground. That's what TWW is like.

12/8/2005 11:54:23 AM
^ ^You still haven't said what you're trying to win, though. You said you wanted to avoid going to "hell in a handbasket" but what do you actually think that means? I think people are so caught up in this side or that side that they forgot what they actually want.[Edited on December 8, 2005 at 11:56 AM. Reason : .]

no need to patronize. Of course they are general... I said that.Sometimes big issues require a complete generalization in order to revert back to the original intentions.[Edited on December 8, 2005 at 12:09 PM. Reason : .]

"n00b" Such a cool word.
12/8/2005 12:11:38 PM
the whole point of winning, if it wasnt fairly obvious by now, is to have power. you want people with similar beleifs to you in power. you want to convince others that either you are right or the other guy is wrong so your agenda can move ahead. it has been shown that negative ads and the like are a lot more effective, thus all the hate.besides, if you really beleive that it is whats right for the country/world, why not be fervent about it. im not saying you have to violently revolt but you can have some conviction. theres a certain amount that is ideal in the polical world. i think general distaste for the other side can part of that even if it seems uncalled for at times.

12/8/2005 12:38:11 PM
^ ^still have yet to answer my question. You want power... to do what with it? Why the need to run the country?I am by no means saying it is wrong to stand up for what you believe in. i'd holla at this chick
12/8/2005 12:48:41 PM
("troll" now there's another good one)I guess you could say that I just want to know why people want to run the world...I actually started typing my whole theory behind this but I think its too hard to explain.
12/8/2005 12:49:08 PM
Oh, i finally found out what a troll is!I think there are some people who don't walk a clear line between being a troll and being themselves. when it comes to beliefs, many people just don't take their own seriously, like someone who doesn't care if they care themselves. i could only see that kind of person going on for 1000's of posts on here about crap. But I don't really think that's SB.
12/8/2005 12:49:32 PM
If this was in person and not the internet there wouldnt be as much hatethe internet lets you vent and be a dick while wasting time at workyoure reading way too much into it
12/8/2005 12:50:47 PM
^ I doubt it. There's a lot of hate outside of the internet. Words turn into action and venting (aka "catharsis") has been studied and many outcomes show that it's ineffective. It actually stirs up hatred even more. See if someone is "venting" about something, they often express extremely exaggerated opinions about it. Once said, people feel the need to justify why they said what they said, so to solve this mind-dilemma we tend to believe what we vent, creating more intense hatred.

People want to run things because people are basically selfish in nature. Ex. Rich guy is tired of letting go of almost half his pay check to pay for some art gallery or something.Ex. Atheist doesn't want his kids to be "taught"/coerced to pray in school.Ex. Woman doesn't want the choice to have an abortion taken from herBasically, people want their way. They see that the only way to get what they want is to have themselves or likeminded people in charge.[Edited on December 8, 2005 at 1:35 PM. Reason : expounding]

^^^^ i dont think your examples are all that selfish at all. they are all items put on you by the government and thus you obviously want to have say in that. in so, of course, you'd prefer people that agree with you. it isnt as if controlling the government will get you 100% of you want, but plenty of people would be plenty fine with a few major points of their agenda being satisfied or having at least a working compromise.^ not to mention things like economic issues which could be solved a variety of ways depending on other factors in the system.[Edited on December 8, 2005 at 2:21 PM.
