Was driving down Buck Jones last night and passed a cop clocking people at the (obvious) point down the hill from the Crossroads area. Got written up for 53 in a 35 (I didn't know it was a 35, else wouldn't have been going quite that fast). As an added bonus, the cop informed me that my license had expired in September, so I also got charged with driving without a valid license. The cop told me that, as long as I go renew my license within the next few days (I went today, done) that the second charge should be dropped. I'm willing to pay the fine, but so it doesn't affect my insurance I'd like to go to court and talk to the DA to get it lowered to 9 over. However, with the license thing as an extinuating circumstance, and being that the speeding charge was more than 15 over, is there still any chance of getting it reduced to 9 over in y'all's opinion? Or am I basically screwed and need to get a lawyer? If there's a decent chance of it getting reduced, I can go and see if the DA will bargain, and get a Continuance and a lawyer if he/she won't budge. Mostly clean previous record--the only ticket I've had, ever, is driving without a seat belt in June 2000*.*It's ironic that I actually got pulled for speeding that time too, and was actually wearing my seat belt. The state trooper decided to be nice and give me something that didn't carry an insurance penalty.[Edited on December 7, 2005 at 2:46 PM. Reason : d]

yeah, they sit there all the time. if you've had no other moving violations in the past 3 years, i would say you've got a decent chance at getting it to 9 over. personally, i would just go ahead and get a lawyer (i reccomend james crouch). you'll only pay another ~100-150 bucks, you don't have to go to court, and he'll get it reduced to nothing or a non moving violation.

That's the Cary PD. They sit at the bottom of the hills all over town. I'm sure it does a lot to protect our town from the big SUVs that pick up speed going downhill.

^It was a Raleigh cop.^^Do you usually read the front of your license for entertainment value? I know what's on there already.Probably should have remembered around the time of my birthday, though.

they're supposed to expire now every age that ends in 5 or 0, so it's easier to remember.
