Hey everyone... Ive been absent from the game playing for a few good years... but I enjoyed aoe2 when I did play games.... Is AOE3 any good, or is there another game with the same concept out there that is far better?THanks!!

I was kinda in the same boat as you, and since I don't really keep up with games either I just downloaded the demo, and I wasn't really impressed. It runs SOOO slow and the graphics are only marginally better than AOE2.

as a big fan of aoe2, i have to say i am disappointed with aoe3 and I find myself wanting to go back and play aoe2 instead.

well i have played all the AoE games including the Age of Mythology. I have to say that the new AoE3 is my least favorite. I dont like the home city, there are too many units, the whole indian deal is gay, experience (wtf). THey need to go back to the basics.

the story line IS overcomplexThe home city thing/experiance thing does ive mroe encentive to earn points by gathering stuff, ect. Also lets you set up victory conditions based on leveling home city so that a player cannot afford to turtle up forever.the biggest problem with it is the same problem I had with earlier versions, units able to fire through player built objects like walls. If i build a wall, you should have to demolish it, or sue indirect fire weapons (mortars, rockets, archers, ect) to shoot over it. As it stands buildign a wall around a tower does not protect the tower. It does not protect a man behind a wall. Walls are baricades, not true walls. Ah well, maybe a patch will show up.

The only AoE game I've played is the original one, way back in '97/'98. However, I liked that a lot. Does that bode well for my liking this one, in people's opinion, or is there really no relation between them due to seven years and 3(?) titles of separation?

So what about Civ IV.... is this the same sort of game or what? If so, how does it compare to AOE2?

I got both AoE 3 and Civ IV. I must say Civ IV is much better than the AoE sequel. I find the new Civ IV to be a little more simple to play, and looks a million times better than any Civ game ever.

Is it the complicated thing that makes people recommend against it, or that it runs slow? How much firepower do you need for it to run well? (Will be running on an Athlon64 3700+, 1 GB RAM, 128MB geforce 6600gt)
