Monday's confrontation began on Camden Street about 9:45 p.m., when police tried to arrest Boyd for a probation violation, said Jim Sughrue, police spokesman. Boyd sprinted from police and ran into a house before cops found him, handcuffed his wrists and drove him to the Wake County Jail, Sughrue said. Inside the jail parking deck, Boyd, his hands still cuffed behind him, bolted from the officer as the pair walked from the cruiser to the jail, Sughrue said. He leapt from the parking deck's second floor, landed on his back and then took off. Moments later, a worker at Est Est Est Trattoria, three blocks away, saw a stranger enter the kitchen and ask for directions to the bathroom. The worker called police when he saw the handcuffs. Soon, dozens of officers swarmed into the restaurant and made a beeline for the men's room, said server Guerino Davi IV. Boyd had locked himself inside the lone stall and, after wriggling his cuffed hands in front of his body, hoisted himself up into the bathroom's ceiling. "How he got up there, I don't know," Davi said. Officers pounded on the metal door, shouting for Boyd to come out, Davi said. "Then, we heard 'Bang, bang, bang,' " Davi said. The noise was Boyd, who had fallen through the ceiling, made of lightweight foam tiles. Along with his lean frame, Boyd dragged tiles, wiring, a ceiling fan and lighting toward the ground. Boyd was charged with two counts of resisting arrest, damage to real property, and breaking and entering, according to Raleigh police Tuesday afternoon the men's bathroom at Est Est Est remained in disarray and was closed to customers. A man's brown leather shoe lay in the plaster and tile that still littered the floor. A few blocks away, Boyd, dressed in an orange jumpsuit, stood before a Wake County judge. He listened to the charges and then learned that he might be freed until trial, thanks to a pre-trial release program. Boyd shook the judge's hand, waved to friends in the courtroom gallery and was led back to jail."
