who the fuck writes a fucking program that refuses to fucking evaluate e? wtf? my fucking TI-85 calculator that I bought back in 19-fucking-96 can fucking evaluate e. fuck canadians and they're non-programming asses...[/rant]
11/28/2005 10:14:48 PM
i bet maple 10 is all like 'FUCK USER ERROR'
11/28/2005 10:18:42 PM
maple is one of the most worthless programs people at the Cal I or Cal II level... hell even Cal III will ever use. It's pointless and stupid. I completely agree when your TI-85 calculator is more functional than a math program something is wrong.
11/28/2005 10:30:28 PM
^^I'd probably agree...if I was actually doing something wrong
11/28/2005 10:31:51 PM
MATLAB
11/28/2005 10:34:24 PM
MATLAB > Mathematica > Mathcad > Maple
11/28/2005 10:44:08 PM
^ That's is stupid. Maple and MATLAB have different purposes. The former is for symbolic computation, the latter is for numerical solvers. To evaluate e, type
exp(1);
11/28/2005 10:46:08 PM
Of course they serve different purposes... It's just my personal preference
11/28/2005 10:50:07 PM
evalf(exp(1));
11/28/2005 11:15:27 PM
^yeah that's how I finally did it. the irony is the fucker I was talking to re tech support kept insisting that all I needed to do was evalf(e)...still can't evalf a function that has e's in it though, it just spits out the original functionbut at this point I don't give a fuck, the semester is practically over and I'm officially tired of fucking around w/ Calc III
11/28/2005 11:23:43 PM
ahaha like i said, user error
11/28/2005 11:26:30 PM
11/28/2005 11:30:53 PM
i'd say trying to evalf(e) counts as user error
11/28/2005 11:43:58 PM
^agreed
11/29/2005 12:13:00 AM
Sounds like somebody didn't load a library they needed; Maple is my first choice for mathematical modeling. I like MATLAB, but I'm not very proficient at it.
11/29/2005 12:42:16 AM
^what? i'm glad that "e" isn't a reserved variable
11/29/2005 12:47:08 AM
11/29/2005 12:54:49 AM
11/29/2005 2:18:44 AM
hahahaha, you think "tech support" writes the program.i'm pretty sure they've never been asked as stupid a question as "how do you evaluate e?" so they were just making shit up.
11/29/2005 2:28:18 AM
you couldn't find out how to evaluate an exponential function using the maple help filesso you called tech supportwowi'd suggest you stick to your ti-89 in the future
11/29/2005 3:46:03 AM
I've got the program here you arrogant piece of shit, maybe you'd like to take a look yourself. If "evaluating an exponential function" was my problem I wouldn't have bothered.
11/29/2005 8:46:17 AM
what does that mean
11/29/2005 12:55:41 PM
11/29/2005 1:12:30 PM
^ ahahahaha, it fucking told you right in the help file. good job. I don't know why everyone is so down on maple. it's a really powerful and versitile tool, the prof's here for the most part just suck at teaching it. only professor I've ever had that was good at answering maple related questions was norris.
11/29/2005 2:22:37 PM
larry norris is the maple king
11/29/2005 3:28:27 PM
11/29/2005 3:46:01 PM
i still don't understand the point of this threadyou're bitching because you were trying 'evalf(e)' ??
11/29/2005 3:49:07 PM
basically, and now he's bitching because people are giving him a hard time for it.[Edited on November 29, 2005 at 5:18 PM. Reason : ]

Maple is actually a really good mathematical package; its downfall is that they need some serious lessons in writing user-friendly code. It's powerful, but its commands are counter-intuitive to people familiar with most any other math program, or calculator.]]
11/29/2005 5:38:03 PM
maple 10's much better than 9 was though at least. being able to right click on stuff and select "solve" is nice.
11/29/2005 6:34:37 PM
i still have maple 6
11/29/2005 6:38:16 PM
i use 7, im loser
11/29/2005 6:41:38 PM
man I wish the bookstore had 4 dollar maple instead of 4 dollar mathematica though
11/29/2005 7:05:50 PM
kazaa has zero dollar maple if you really really want it
11/29/2005 7:06:43 PM
11/29/2005 7:33:11 PM
I used maple 8
11/29/2005 7:33:14 PM
um, how many of you actually still use Maple after you get out of math classes/college?
11/29/2005 7:53:18 PM
i doi mean im still in classes but i dont have to use maple. if you know how to use it it comes in handy every now and then(havent found a use for vpython though)[Edited on November 29, 2005 at 8:00 PM. Reason : .]

Perfection.(Fuck Maple)
11/29/2005 8:55:17 PM
try copying and pasting that onto something
11/29/2005 9:05:15 PM
my homework would take about 1233 hours doing it on a calculator and about 1 hour in maple

It's cute how you keep talking, it's like you almost vaguely understand what's going on
11/30/2005 11:01:26 AM
OHso maple 'produced' this erroneous function, evalf(e)that makes sensedude just man up and say you fucked up
