Why was the focus of that MD? We had 4 selections and more honorable mentions

John Deraney should have been at least honorable mention. Pace from V Tech got it and wasn't nearly as good this year as JD.

Pace had a better FG% and more FGs.

(however, Dean had a worse % than either of those)

TheACC.com doesn't write much of its own stuff. They mostly gank their stories from teams' websites (eg - gopack.com).
Just so happens that they got this story from the Maryland site.

How much better would Deraney do if he just did the kicking instead of punting too? I think that would help a ton. I mean we have like 5 kickers/punters surely one could be good enough to punt.

But at times we needed a good punter though.

Derenay is a better punter than place kicker. He was our best player the first half of the season.

^You are joking right? He has an NFL career in place kicking. And besides that, kicking is way more important IMO.

I dunno about an NFL career. Maybe. He is above average at both but not stellar. I have been screaming for years we need to split the duties. His punt average dropped off big time this year and how often did we let him take long range kicks?

Garland Heath had 2 clutch interceptions to win the game for us and he only got honorable mention? and TJ only got 2nd team all ACC??

^I was thinking that too... I mean I am actually fine with Heath getting HM, but TJ 2nd team? I don't really think he deserved that at all. Maybe there were just no good TE's in the ACC this year... I mean they had to pick somebody.

^x7
His punt average dropped off by less than two yards, while his % of punts inside the 20 increased from 28.3% to 33.8%. Know what you're talking about.

^^^^You've got to be kidding, right?

You don't understand why TJ got a mention there? He's been our leading reciever two years running and is generally considered an NFL caliber TE. He had a better year last year than this year, but he's still a beast at TE.

^There are several Tight Ends in the ACC of NFL caliber. Williams is not nearly as good as Vernon Davis for Maryland. I really don't see how he got the nod of Miami's Olsen. TJ made some good plays sure, but he isn't on their level. How many passes did he drop this year?

TJ has a promising career in Volleyball with the way he loves to bobble and then swat passes.

His overall reliability completely overshadows the recent drops he had. Plus he's probably still the best blocking TE in the conference, which is the majority of a TE's job.

Lets face it. TJ only catches passes that are impossible to catch or that hang him out to dry over the middle.

Unfortunately, Stone will not hang our guys out to dry. Therefore, we're only seeing TJ catching or dropping passes that should be caught, something he hasnt done since P-riv was here. I mean give the man a break...he's surprised when a pass hits him in the numbers. Its tough to catch under that kind of pressure.

So, what is the point of an "All ACC" team if they don't actually form a team and compete with other "All Conference" teams?

I'd buy it for $1.

The only thing... It would be impossible/very difficult to coach for. I guess you could pick the coacing staff with the best conference record but they wouldn't have time to work with the players.
