like on slickdeals. We could have filters to where users could customize TWW to only show threads from users with a high rating. We could give positive points to good posts and negative points to bad posts. Maybe an automatic suspension after a certain amount of negative points are given.

Too much potential for abuse with all of the alias stuff happening. Concept is interesting though.
11/28/2005 12:20:43 AM
interesting but....occasionally, n00bs come to TWW with good material
11/28/2005 12:23:42 AM
I more meant that everyone would start a certain level, so n00bs wouldn't have to earn their points to be visible, but they could lose points and get on the blacklist.

TWW would naturally tend to exploit the system's problems and weaknesses until the potential for positive aspects was completely obliterated. Like it does with posters.
11/28/2005 4:14:43 AM
yea, this wouldn't get abused whatsoever
11/28/2005 11:16:03 AM
How many positive reputation points could you get?
11/28/2005 11:30:03 AM
to infinity and beyond! The thing is that you could only give a person points once every so often, like once a week or so. So someone would have to get a lot of people to give points to suspend them. It would help with the really annoying people that everyone hates.
11/28/2005 11:53:27 AM
^ couldnt that also lead to people getting suspended just because a group of people dont like them, or just want to flex thier e-muscles?
11/28/2005 11:54:34 AM
Yeah. But it would take a large number of people. And this would all be reversable by the moderator. The moderator can unsuspend someone if they didn't feel it was just. Anyhow I was thinking it would only be a 1 or 3 day suspension, only mods would have the power to do more.

I think this idea has potential.
11/28/2005 1:00:21 PM
beautiful idea in theory, I can only image the abuse it would take though.
11/28/2005 1:21:25 PM
i like it
11/28/2005 2:25:07 PM
i've attained a +1 user rating
11/28/2005 3:18:24 PM
I just thought of another ideaa user would have to stick around a while and have a reputation rating above a certain level to be able to assign negative points. That would solve a lot of the problems of abusing the system if we only allowed "credible" users that power.

i agree with this threadthe thing on slickdeals is awesome

even the revised system is lacking. 1) a group of people could constantly just buff up their friends reputaitons in a giant circle jerk thus leading back to the original abuse by a large group of users.2) not everything someone posts is gonna be gold nor should various users be able to say what is and is not a decent contribution. you're always going to have disputes on certain things and thus people will find ways to abuse the system.3) mods reverse stuff? yeah right, half of the sections have shitty moderation as it is.

i would have a high rankingsome of my threads are downright hillarious
1/4/2006 1:17:15 AM
I remember in another thread somewhere somebody suggested reputation points per forum, not just overall. Study Hall is one area I could see that being useful ... give wolfeee like 100 rep points.

cool points....on TWW....As much as some of you frequent this site, and care about it, Id swear you were getting paid to waste your time on here.
