got 39K miles on my car. my warranty includes all maint up till 50K. i'm considering getting an extension to 100K, but it cost about $3500. Is it worth it? I haven't had any mechanical problems on the car for the last 39k miles. should I drop the $3500. I'd rather spend it on some IT classes I'd like to take up.

i would do it IF it is an actual M-B extended warranty and not an "aftermarket" warranty offered by wynns or some other bullshit company.it like this, if you keep that benz to 100k you will spend way more than 3500 in repairs that would have been covered under warranty.if the IT classes are that important, I would sell the benz and get a more practical car.

uh, classes are almost certainly a better investment than spending $$ on a depreciating asset.

10k miles till expiration. any suggestions folks?

how much is a timing belt, water pump, belts, plugs and wires, and trans service? Does that add up to near $3500? If so, then you might as well get the warranty, assuming it covers such things.I personally would do it with my VW, because when stuff like the timing belt breaks prematurely, it is covered.
11/28/2005 9:00:08 AM
cuz timing belts always break prematurely..

I've seen it twice at my shop alone with VW. I don't believe in thier 105k timing belt, or thier "non serviceable" transmission.
11/28/2005 10:14:25 AM
haha.. 60k for the timing belt. period.
11/28/2005 12:10:46 PM
They wont fix it under warranty if your timing belt brakes.
11/28/2005 2:55:04 PM
but that's maintenance, right?

most new cars nowadays have that shit changed well above 50K miles. im talkin near 100K ir anything.most tranny services exceed 100K miles$3500 you can buy my civic

If your timing belt breaks under warranty, they will replace or fix the engine.

you're talking about vws. warranty isnt 105k. (its 60k)the listed interval is 105k, but most ppl do them b/w 60-80k especially if the car is modded.btw, the discussion is a maintenance warranty, not a bumper-to-bumper or powertrain warranty.[Edited on November 28, 2005 at 7:03 PM. Reason : ...]

don't get the warranty. i believe you should still have powertrain warranty to 60k if something major goes out. otherwise, do you regular maintenance on time and if something comes up take it to a good shop (ask around) instead of to the dealer.

you can always get zxappeal to work on it

I think the VW TDI calls for a timing belt replacement every 40k. But who cares, this asshole just wants to know if it is worth getting the extended warranty on his benz.Once again, extending your maintenance inclusive 50k warranty to 100k for a mere $3500 is a sound investment IF you plan on keeping the car well past 50k, or you feel you need an added bonus when and if sell it at some point after 50k miles (assuming the warranty is transferrable).
11/28/2005 7:44:42 PM
yeah, interval for the diesel is different. i was talking about gas engines
11/28/2005 8:16:26 PM
but the thread is about a damn benz
11/28/2005 8:18:20 PM
If it is a full maintenance warranty, and you plan on keeping your car that long, then yes, it is a worth while warranty.
