I like to sleep 8 or 9. I usually get 6. So one night on the weekend I sleep 10-15 hours.

^ depends on the person.

Some people require more; some require less.

I have sleep apnea and without a machine I could sleep almost indefinitely.

i most definitely could sleep a million hours straight, but i'd wake up feeling like ass. it just seems like if you sleep more than 8 hours on average, you carry your A-game. but that's just me...thought I'd find out what everyone else thinks...

left to my own devices, i'd stay up every night until 4 or 5 am, then sleep until early afternoon every day. i've been on active duty in the Marines for a year and a half, and i'll still slip back into that schedule in no time if i take leave or something. i'm just hard-wired as a night person...that's why i don't sleep much at night and end up taking naps after work.

maybe, maybe not.
1) the amt of sleep necessary is different for everybody, and varies with that person.
2) he may be more of a night owl than a morning/day person. i know that given the ability to set my own schedule, i'd go to work at noon, and work til 9 or 10 at night. my bf is the same way.
3) you seem to be operating on the assumption that he has no sleep problems. until you rule that out, it's heartless to assume he's lazy. that may be the case, but if you're not willing to put up with it, maybe you should get a new bf. you can't change him.

People sleep depending on how much sleep they've had, and how much they usually sleep.

HOLY SHIT, THAT'S ME!!!

I am a school teacher, and I go to bed at around 3 am every night, get up at 6. Then I sleep from 3 pm to around 6 pm.

But on weekends, I sleep a good 12 hours for two days.

During school holidays, I become what I am naturally, a night owl. I sleep around 6-8 am, and get up around 3-6 pm.

i think you all just train yourselves to do this crap. ive never heard of a night owl with a consistant sleep pattern and would love to see some study on it.

personally ive done everything from going to bed at 6am and waking up at 1pm to normal 10-6am. just how you get used to doing it. you probably are more likely to be the night owl because of your activities or lifestyle than natural causes.

awww, he's not lazy by any means. thanks for the great relationship advice tho...
i was just worried that someone who gets 14-16 hours per sleep a day and is tired still may have an illness or possible depression. maybe it's not so uncommon though.

Depression can definitely cause you to sleep more. I am clinically depressed and am on medication. Before I was on my medicine, I HAD to have 11 hours of sleep or I seriously could not function. I thought I was just being lazy, so I went to the doctor and explained this problem, along with other problems, and I was diagnosed with depression due to a fluctuation in my hormone levels. Now that I have been on medication for a couple of months, I can get by with 8-9 hours of sleep. I can even get up earlier if I have to. The only problem I have is that right after I take my medicine, I have to sleep for a couple of hours...thus I take it at night before I go to bed.
