My sister's laptop is about 5-6 years old and has all but completely stopped functioning so I have decided to reformat and install Win98 SE (it came with ME). I downloaded 98 from the software priviledges offered by my major. I am using 911 CD to help me out, but I can't get it to finish. I reformatted and set it up with 1 partition and then when I try to proceed with the install it freezes after the first stage of setting up. I have tried copying everything over to the hdd (an option with this boot cd) but it always fails to copy. I know someone is going to mention using Bart's PE. I can't get it to work with Win 98. I point it to the D:\Setup\WIN98 but it still says it can't find the setup files (I've tried many other directories as well). Anyone have any suggestions?

do your "software priviledges" allow you to download Win 2000 or XP?

Even if the computer came with ME, there's no reason to leave your sister crippled and vulnerable by installing 98 on her machine. If you're worried about performance - don't be. 2000 can run on old old machines just fine. XP can even run on about 400MHz just fine if you keep the system clean.

-800mhz celeron
-128mb SDRAM
-Intergrated video
-24x CDROM

The reason I was going with 98SE was purely b/c her laptop is so slow. My brother has comparable specs on his desktop, thought his is more powerful and he can't run XP hardly at all. I do have access to any version of MS OSes through the software alliance.

it's so slow right now probably because it's just overloaded with crap.

Seriously - install Win 2k, get all the service packs, uninstall Windows Messenger and Outlook Express, install NAV9, MS Antispyware and FireFox and she'll be good to go.

The MSNDAA isn't letting me log in now. I think I deleted the e-mail containing the link so I did a site.ncsu.edu on google and got this:
https://msdn.e-academy.com/ncsu_cs/index.cfm?loc=login/login
I tried to do remind password and it says that I can not be found in the system. I just downloaded that 98SE over fall break. wtf?
