my jeep gc is acting up on me. the alarm goes off without any trigger, ive checked the battery, its good, terminals were cleaned, grounds are good. could it be the fuse or do i have a short somewhere. i disconnected the battery a week ago to work on the headlight, had problem cranking, the whole electrical system shuts off, radio presets were gone that sort, was thinking probably due to poor reconnection of terminal, had to fiddle with the terminal to get it started. ive since cleaned the terminal and check the battery, as mentioned above. so now what gives. need help!

model year? not sure it really makes a difference, I am fairly sure that all grand cherokees have BCM's. IF its the factory alarm, then check all fuses first, then have the dealer or any shop with the proper equipment scan the body control module for codes. autozone and advance cant help you.IF its aftermarket, you might try replacing the remote battery and/or adjusting the shock sensor first, but usually I just totally remove them- the alarm control boxes can go haywire causing weird shit like this and getting a replacement one that is still good isnt a viable option- especially if the alarm is more than a year or two old. I used to have a box of shitty alarms I removed from customers cars, most were Viper.

^ I'll second that on the aftermarket.Mine will sometime go into vallet mode by itself or start going chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp until I reset the whole thing.Does it alarm instantly, within 30/60 seconds (time delay), or is it random? Could your panic be stuck on your key fob?

Did you fix all of those other problems already and the alarm is only acting up or your whole electrical system is still shutting off? It sounded like you fixed the other problems and was left with the alarm problem.

only the alarm problem is bugging me.the others have been fixed(well i hope, they have not been happening after cleaning terminals and retightening)the alarm problem arises after i cleaned the terminals, i locked the doors, took a nap woken up by the alarm. disarm it, lock the door and 15-20mins it goes off again. rite now the doors are not locked, just to be sure the alarm doesnt go off at 3am and wake the neighbors.

Several years ago I bought an 87 maxima and the alarm system would not arm, and it was draining the battery in a matter of 2 days of not driving it. I got the shop manual for the car, not the manuals you can get at autozone but the full nissan shop manual. I went through testing every trigger connection and found the trunk switch had failed which also caused the trunk light to come on. Why am I telling you this...if you don't already have the shop manual buy one off of ebay and start troubleshooting. If I had your problem I'd check all connections for the alarm system first. If it still goes off, I'd jumper every switch. Since it's an intermittant problem it's going to be tough to find. But since it all started after fixing another problem, the problem is probably near where you were doing all of your work. I'd start with the hood switch.[Edited on November 26, 2005 at 11:50 AM. Reason : edit]
