I know this should probably go in the Hot Stove thread but this is a big deal considering MANY are National League East fans.Reportedly for Mike Jacobs and a top pitching prospect (although there are questions as to how good he will be) Yusmeiro Petit.http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051123&content_id=1271795&vkey=news_fla&fext=.jsp&c_id=fla

Jacobs was at maximum value. I liked him but he was never a high prospect and he will never live up to his amazing star. Petit was projected as a backend guy considering he topped out at 86 and is a pitcher, even in the minors, that relied more on fooling hitters then overpowering. It is very rare that a pitcher who relies on deception in the minors is a very succesful majors pitching (obvious exceptions of course like Maddox).Carlos will be fine for his contract life. He is only 33 and had a top class year last year still in a pitchers park in Miami. I'm not too worried about that. Two side effects I think you are underestimating. The importance of having a true top class cleanup hitter so Beltran can be more comfortable. Also, it puts us in the front for the Wagner sweepstakes. He told the Daily News that it is now a 'one-horse race' now that the Mets have shown a willingness to win over Philly.I don't mind the trade and I am usually high on prospects. Milledge is still there along with two top pitchers in Humber and Pelfry (when they sign him but I'm not worried about that; they will get it done).
