How long does it typically take to hear back from a company to set up an interview after sending a resume? (p.s.) This is a career-type job.

depends on the company, the workload of the hiring manager, and the demand for the position.

I would say...the need to fill the position is fairly high...and demand for the job is fairly low...no clue about the workload of the hiring manager.

3 days < x < 3 weeks

There was many places that I sent in a resume for and never got a call back for an interveiw... and the job that I have now it was 6 weeks after my first interveiw (set up at the career center so they got my resume the same day of the first interview) before my second interveiw... its a small company and even though the woman I replaced was retiring, he was just too busy to get back to me earlier.

24 hours

It's always awkward when people call and ask when they should hear about their application.Because you can't just be like "Ooh, you don't get it, do you?"

I've had some contact me the same day, and others wait a couple of weeksso it definately varies

depends on the company. had people call the next day, had people call 6-7 weeks. my husband put in an app at Dow for a research position and they waited probably 6 months before calling for an interview (they were waiting on the ok for funding the position)

If it's less than 2-3 days... beware. Sketchy company usuallyI'd say anywhere from 3-4 days to a month is the usual. 80% of the resume's you send out you wont get a call from...especially if you're not responding to a hiring ad.

My sister filled out an application to be an operations officer (ie, spy) at the CIA.They randomly called her like three months later and made her do a phone interview right then. Then they gave her a current events quiz she failed. She didn't know who the President of Afghanistan was, among other things. They told her to buy some books about the CIA and call them back (also told her not to tell anyone she was interviewing at the CIA). True story.

Sounds like she fucked up that last bit.

^^^^ Yeah the Agency takes quite a while to get to people about jobs. Those phone interviews should generally take 60-90 minutes if you are successful. How are you applying to the CIA for an Operations job and NOT know the President of AFGHANISTAN???

your sister is an idiot, that's for sure

i recently got an update about a job a applied for during the early summer. was more of a "the duties have been revise a bit, we'll get back to you when we've decided something about the position"
11/22/2005 10:43:40 PM
My quickest response time was a week ... typical response time was 3-5 weeks. My current job I think I applied, interviewed and accepted the offer in 4 weeks. I know my dad with his current job, he quit one job on Monday and walked into his new job on Tuesday because of the urgency. As has been said, depends on the need of the position.

Ok, so...the job I was originally talking about in this thread did not work out...but I heard from an even better job today that I sent my resume to on Friday...woo hoo!
