the qb change was necessary
11/21/2005 11:24:11 PM
uhmmmmmmmm...what?
11/21/2005 11:26:27 PM
Maryland has become a rivalry game, it won't prove that. It will only satisfy our desire to see Marylina North be defeated at home finally, if that happens. I mean Philip couldn't even beat them.[Edited on November 21, 2005 at 11:31 PM. Reason : I don't think I have been ever able to see us beat Maryland at home.]

If Stone shows he's a capable QB (ie creating a passing game) and helps us win this game then putting him in as QB is a good callIf he's not able to create a passing game and that contributes to why we lose, then he shouldn't have replaced DavisIf we win the game and he doesn't contribute to the win (ie merely hands the ball off to Brown) then it didn't really matter who the QB was[Edited on November 21, 2005 at 11:31 PM. 11/21/2005 11:30:37 PM
i thought CarZin said he would suspend CharlieEFHthe qb was necessary regardless of anything. Davis was a sucky lame duck.
11/21/2005 11:32:25 PM
Do you have to start a thread on Stone and your gay lover Jay Davis before and after every game?
11/21/2005 11:32:40 PM
so essentially stone hasn't proven yet that he can't create a passing offense? i guess you missed the 3-4 starts he had where he was making poor passes and sucking just like Davis?
11/21/2005 11:35:26 PM
They overlook that, based on Ws.
11/21/2005 11:36:50 PM
^^^i didn't after last game...when you play a team where the snapper forgets to snap the ball, the QB passes to the back of a receiver and the snapper snaps the ball while the QB is talking audibling/talking to the sideline all in the same drive...it isn't even worth noting how bad we played against themafter the wake game i said Stone would impress me if he gets us to a bowlwell he now has that opportunity[Edited on November 21, 2005 at 11:37 PM. yeah, which would mean that he has consistently shown that he can't lead a passing attack.he's won 3 games, Davis - 2. each have a "marquee" win (Davis, GT. Stone, FSU). I fail to see a difference, but I do see someone who is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaachin
11/21/2005 11:41:37 PM
When will you get that sometimes you have to take 1 step back to go 2 forwards? At this point we can't exactly assume that Stone is going to just shit the bed for his career as a QB and Burke or whoever else will step up and be the man next year. If that were an ok assumption then A) he wouldn't be second string and B) then yes, we continue the year with Davis at the helm...maybe.Something you completely and utterly this far have failed to recognize is Stone's leadership ability and enthusiasm.I said it at the begining of last year, that I was completely skeptical and miffed at how a QB that has a stutter problem is going to be a good leader. That isn't to bag on Jay, thats just stating a hard fact that on nearly every good team, the QB is a (usually the) vocal leader on and off the field. I think you should have noticed by now how NCSU likes to play to the level of their opponent. Well in these games where the teams we play doesn't manage to get our A game, a motivated and vocal QB (really any player, but you expect it from your field general) can be the difference. If everything else is a wash, or if the slight reduction in passing ability is offset by the difference it makes in the offense spirit, then we trudge ahead with Stone and an eye toward the future.I don't think our coaches truley have the knack to eye a guy that can revolutionalize are team. Ocain did it, and there seems to be an outside shot that Burke could be that kid if (giant if) he can get some size on him.[Edited on November 21, 2005 at 11:44 PM. Reason : x]

all i'm saying is we probably dont' beat maryland if we don't have a passing gamewe mightwe might get lucky as hell and win like we've won our last three winsbut i really doubt it

does anyone know where EJ Henderson plays in the NFL?
11/22/2005 2:52:39 AM
^Vikings I think
11/22/2005 6:16:58 AM
this isn't a "Stone sucks" threadi hope we win and can get to a bowlbut this is Stone's most important game of his career thus farhe needs to show up and do more than just be there
11/22/2005 7:46:31 AM
how do you not get that if we went w/ jay the rest of the seasonwe would back in this same spot next year w/ a shitty QB w/ no experienceat least this way, if stone gets the job next year...he has some real game time experience, will be adapted to game speed and, by god willing, be a better QB next season
11/22/2005 9:43:01 AM
Fuckin' TA... I hated the glass-man.
11/22/2005 10:36:10 AM
Saturday is the last home game for Stone and Jay Davis. Let them both play.Justin Burke or Brent Schaeffer will be our QB next year.
11/22/2005 10:52:45 AM
^Stone will be the starter going into fall practice...you never know if Burke is going to be able to step right in. And BS is BS is BS....I'm not getting my hopes up for him...this is the 3rd year in a row we are recruiting him.

yeah, seriously. people saying that shit didnt watch them play UNC, that's for sure...
11/22/2005 11:50:55 AM
WRONGJay's losing ways already determined that the QB change was necessary
11/22/2005 11:56:49 AM
run all over the twerps.
11/22/2005 11:59:55 AM
Amazing how tight 1-6 is.
11/22/2005 12:14:25 PM
^^^^^It's still a valid comment. If we can't get a passing game open, they can still stop the run (load the box).At this point, throw the stats out the window. This game is too big for both teams.
11/22/2005 12:18:14 PM
i think the point of those stats is that "loading the box" hasn't helped the Terps all season.we don't have to get the passing game open, we just have to play the same game we've been playing. Pound the ball, play action to keep them off balance... I would like to see Brown get around 30 carries.
11/22/2005 12:34:39 PM
i'm a little concerned about MDs passing game, honestly.
11/22/2005 12:36:02 PM
I'm not as worried about our secondary as I was before the season...Hudson plays great coverage, Davis has his ups and downs, and Scott and Heath have both showed some very good skill.
11/22/2005 12:38:39 PM
damn, 23 rushing tds allowed in ren games?Thats pretty bad.
11/22/2005 12:49:02 PM
11/22/2005 2:27:36 PM
using stone over davis changed the offensive coaching philosophy, the change in strategy was much needed and wouldnot have taken place had they left davis as the starter. Therefor i starting stone was essential to the turnaround for the team in the second half of the season not because of what stone brings to the table but because of the coaching philosphy change once he was inserted into the lineup.
11/22/2005 3:05:39 PM
11/22/2005 3:15:38 PM
Stone hasn't changed the offense, Brown hasrather...Stone's presences has negatively affected the offensive coaching philosophy while Brown has positively affected it[Edited on November 22, 2005 at 3:27 PM. Reason : sdf]
11/22/2005 3:25:08 PM
well, you're comming around, but you're still a little mixed up. Putting Stone in has forced us to take some pressure off the QB, leading to a more conservative style of attack. The fact that Brown is nasty has allowed us to continue this trend. We changed the offensive scheme b/c of Stone b/c he sucks....he's just more athletic than Davis. And even though we dumbed down the offense, it is the best thing we could have done. GG STONE!!!!!
11/23/2005 12:40:01 AM
^you're saying that Davis doesn't suck? i thought this was obvious to most observers
11/23/2005 12:47:52 AM
haha you people are still talking about football seasonsome great NCAA hoops going on right now
11/23/2005 12:48:55 AM
^^no, that came out wrongDavis sucks, but he actually knows the offense. This causes the coaches to call plays that they think he can make, but obviously he sucks too much to make a play. They KNOW Stone is an idiot, so they dumbed down the offense. Fortunately we found a running back that can hold onto the ball and break a big run, so the change is working very well.
11/23/2005 12:52:00 AM
Stone was put into a win win situation for the last 4 games2 games were supposed to be automatic wins, he was expected to win these2 games weren't automatic wins but 1 of them probably could be won, he wasn't as expected to win thesethe fact that we struggled to get the automatic wins with our offense worries me abut the Maryland gameIt's a game like this where you want your more capable qb, not the flashy fan favoriteIf we win, everyone will be excited and focused on a bowl and that's fineIf we lose...
11/23/2005 8:09:18 AM
...at least it won't be the fault of a senior qb throwing costly INTs.

how bout more than once in the last 6 years does that work
11/23/2005 11:58:46 AM
Nope, doesn't matter.
11/23/2005 11:59:51 AM
In the last 5 seasons one we've beat Maryland oncewith Jay Davis
11/23/2005 12:04:40 PM
This should be an easy choice who to start against Maryland...Jay Davis: 1-0 against MarylandEnough said. But on a serious note, Jay Davis is 2-4 on the season, and in not ONE of those games did we have a 100-yard rusher. Where as Marcus Stone is 3-1 and two wins came with a RB rushing over 100 yards and the third with a RB with 94 yards(against MTSU). The one game where he had to be the leader and actually throw the ball, we lost. Had Jay had 100-yard rushers every game that he started, we'd be bowl eligible at this point. Especially if we had one in the Va Tech and/or UNC game(s).Last year I was on the Marcus Stone for starter band-wagon, because I wanted another young QB to come in and take his lumps so this year we'd be a solid team, but it didn't work out. Stone's injuries and terrible play didn't help matters there either. My only problem with Marcus Stone is his indecisiveness. I mean I agree you shouldn't stare down your WR(Jay Davis) but have some idea where you're going to pass the ball on third down. You don't think when Rivers went out on third down that he KNEW where Cotchery would be the whole play? Marcus' has the tools, he has a strong arm, plenty of size, and some speed, BUT, the fact that he is almost scared to throw the ball really limits how effective he can/will be. Now I agree sometimes it's better to take the sack or run for a couple of yards, but when you're playing from behind or around the 50, and it's third down, take a shot at it, if you throw it far enough it might as well be a punt since JD hasn't been punting the ball very effectively lately.Maryland will be pumped for this game, and I hope our boys are too. But look for them to play man coverage and stack the box with as many people as they can to force Marcus to throw the ball. No other team in the ACC is as dependent on the run as we are, you take away that and we are sitting ducks. And about the BS and Burke arguments, I hope BS comes here and starts next year, and I hope Amato has enough common sense to red-shirt Burke so he can focus on learning the offense(barring we don't lose ANOTHER coordinator) and bulking up a bit because it appears he has the tools, now to just fine tune them a bit before thrusting him into the action a bit too early.
