I was at BestBuy today and came across the demo station for xbox 360. While it did prompt me to want one VERY badly, I was also reminded that my tv won't do it justice and the $600 investment won't do my pockets justice right now. So I'm gonna get my ps2 modded, but I am looking for somewhere that will do it.

i heard for ps2 you still have to solder a 30 wire chip. Otherwise i have to do the swap disk game, seems kind of lame and annoying?

no mine was a regular ps2.before i mailed it to them it worked like normal = plays games you buy at storeNow:I take an original game (well 90% of original games) and put into any pc or mac, copy with nero or toast (just simple disc copy, if original is a cd , then you copy to a cd, if original is a dvd, you copy to a dvd)When i'm done with the copy, my ps2 loads the copy just like it came from blockbuster or ebgames. It's totally seemless. However i don't play online games with my ps2, but there is a newer version of the modchip now that is fully compatible with sony's online servers for online game play, my ps2 will not be able to play online with a burnt game, but i think a game i buy will still work if i wanted.the only change i've seen is that the splash screen has a new logo that comes up first before the ps2 load screens. nothing else is different.

Bruck, what kind of chip did they install?
1/26/2006 7:29:32 AM
my ps2 was on the older side, the guy who i talked to reccomended the infiniti, said it was the most stable with my revision of the ps2, so that's what i got.

anyone use the swap magic disks?if so,where did you get yours?how well do they work?how much did they cost?
1/26/2006 2:23:49 PM
I don't believe the swap magic disks work unless your psp is modded also (thats what i've read)here's a great idea (this is what i did)send your ps2 to get modded correctly (won't need a swap disc). Cost:$90Copy the games you already own, then sell them on ebay to pay for your mod chip. I ended up breaking even.

About last year or two years ago, my friend did it with DMS4 chip . it still works well.

Swap magic works with an unmodded PS2.Just get yourself a hard drive and use the memory card exploit for HD Loader and be done with it.You'll need:a memory carda set of swap discsa hard drivethe files required for the exploit. After that it just boots to the HD and voila.

the problem with that ^^ is that i have the slim ps2 so unless i can hook up my external hard drive then i cant use one

With swap magic you need some way to get the tray open once the swap magic discs have booted, some people use a thin card with a hook on the tip to jimmy the tray open from the front. You can also buy a modded case with a flip top that you can open manually. Personally I'd always go with a chip especially one with an auto-boot feature so you just put your disc in and play.

only problem with a mod chip is that it breaks the seal and costs more to get doneit seems to me the whole point of modding the ps2 is so that you can play copied games and save money, so why spend a fortune when you could just buy games with the same money
1/29/2006 3:25:38 AM
yea, but $90 is the cost of less than 2 games (maybe 3 carefully chosen) and swap disks are a pain compared to a seamless solution like a modchip.

I need a modchip because I also have some german region 2 PAL DVD movies I would like to watch. A modchip will let you watch any region DVDs. Swap discs can't do this. I had a region free DVD player from Sampo, but it broke down.
