We are goin to be a non-profit organization so that we can get donations from people and they can write it off in taxes. We are goin to discuss everything from how the team will be run to ideas for raising money, places to play etc.. This is just a meeting to really get an idea of how many people are truly interested so if you are interested at all come on out.

12/15/2005 12:39:16 AM
If you want any information you need to email tlcollie@ncsu.edu because he is guy setting it up and knows everything.
12/15/2005 5:35:17 PM
I got a notification that I was on the club football list serv but I haven't recived any new info on that in
12/15/2005 8:36:06 PM
For the most part, I don't think much is going on right now. Things will probably pick up at the beg of next semester. The main guy to talk to is rblee and I'm pretty sure thats his email as well, rblee@ncsu.eduHe told me that there was about a 90% chance of having a team in the fall. That sounds pretty damn good to me. They've done a lot of work and have some more work to do, but I think the main thing for those interested in playing is to just be patient and get ready for football. Make sure your on the list to get updates and check this board as well. Also, to play, going to need to be very reliable, which means showing up for practice (setting your schedule up for that in the fall) and having a good attitude, etc.I'm pretty sure I've got a coach, but if anyone knows someone that wants to be an assistant coach, let us know that too. I don't want to speak for rblee or anyone else, but this is what everything looks like to me. I'm sure there will be some meetings next semester and maybe even a few walk-through informal practices/workouts, but overall I'd say the first day of practice will prob. be the 1st day of classes in the fall-or maybe a huge meeting that day and practice very soon after. Its going to happen, so if your interested, make sure you are in shape with a good attitude, flexible enough schedule, and a little money for dues. Anyone wanting to add to this, feel free.
12/16/2005 12:35:02 PM
so do you still have to be a student? probably a dumb question but i thought i would ask anyway
12/16/2005 5:16:01 PM
To play, you have to be student or staff. Anyone can coach.
12/16/2005 7:23:13 PM
where did you guys get for a practice field?
12/16/2005 8:27:41 PM
Don't think thats been decided yet. I think there trying to play on the Derr Track field, but not sure. When we played back in the day, we practiced on one of the fraternity fields. I prob. mentioned before, but we played home games at Sanderson practice field...which SUCKED. Grass was like 2-feet high.
12/16/2005 10:08:40 PM
so is this actually through the school or is it basically adult rec?
12/16/2005 10:20:53 PM
Not through the school, but very little difference. We weren't technically through the school back when I played. The guy who coached, was one of the guys that started the league back in the late 60's.. Not sure what happened, but apparently he rubbed some people the wrong way and the school quit supporting it. So, he did it on his own. It cost a little more for dues ($120 then) and had to do a little fund raising, but it wasn't much difference. We were NCSU students and staff playing against students and staff from Duke, Carolina, App, and Western Carolina. Same way it should be now. I think he's setting it up as a student organization, non-profit, and we are eligible for money from the school. Not sure how all that works. Just know that overall, its going to be college athletes playing football against other colleges, with a few older guys mixed in. When I played....I'd compare it to a mix of high school football and semi-pro football. Also, one thing I remember is that it was very "clean" football. Guys hit hard, but it wasn't like people ever played dirty and there wasn't a whole lot of shit-talking either. Just guys that wanted to play football, most of who prob. thought they'd never get another chance.
12/16/2005 11:16:23 PM
i thought they were tearing Derr up?Also, they wont let the current club teams use Derr, so I would start now to try and get it if you need it this spring...
12/16/2005 11:36:55 PM
yo how many people do we have interested now?
12/16/2005 11:40:42 PM
Honestly, I don't know anything about the field. Derr Track was mentioned a while back. Pretty much, I'm not part of leading this thing, so like I say, don't want to speak for anyone. packfan08 and rblee, probably a few others, have done a lot of work to get this going, and they know way more than I do. My main contributions in all this is that I can and have given as much info as possible from how it was about 8 years ago. I think I can get my dad to coach (he coached HS f'ball for 20 years). And, hopefully I can play. I just wanted to reply with as much info as possible w/o mis-stating anything. Basically, I have a lot of faith in rblee and packfan08, and trust that they will let everyone know whats going on when we need to. Again-if your going to play-just get in shape, maybe save up a little money, and you can always post a message or send a PM to me, rblee, or packfan08 and find out whats going on. PM me anytime.

i imagine it would take a lot of startup funds for equipment and stuff?i saw the unc club team practicing on campus one time i was over there and it looked like they were having a lot of fun. however, if you had like 30 guys or so thats like a couple thousand dollars for all the equipment atleast..are you going to have people buy their own equipment ontop of dues?
12/17/2005 1:24:27 AM
i kinda need to know at least what practice hours you are hoping for, and how many people have expressed interest so that i know if this is worth my time or not
12/17/2005 7:07:40 PM
I know there are over 30 guys on the list. I would assume 3 practices per week, around 2 hours a day. Probably something like Tuesday, Wed, Thursday. Something like 3-5 or 4-6 or 5-7. I think if your interested in playing, you just have to have a little faith and hope for a little luck. What I mean by luck is, as they say, when preparation meets opportunity. At this point, you don't really have to set a schedule for it b/c it won't happen until the fall, and I'm sure by about March or early April they will know for sure one way or the other. Not sure what the big committment is at this point, other than lifting/running.
12/17/2005 10:50:51 PM
im thinking ahead since im doing a varsity sport, i ave to tell coach im interested in doing this
12/18/2005 2:27:57 AM
Cool. That makes sense. When I read the post last night, I was wondering....When I played, we practiced 3 times a week for 2-2.5 hours a day. There was a rule that you had to be at 2 practices to play in the game. Way too many guys took advantage of that rule.
12/18/2005 9:43:37 AM
I read the e-mail saying we had permission to start a team but it looked like funding is still the issue. I haven't heard anything since then so I was wondering if anything new is up with Club Football.
2/24/2006 8:11:38 PM
As far as I know, its not going to happen for Fall 2006. No one stepped up to be a student officer, so we had no representation at the last meeting, which was mandatory for scheduling, etc. I can't do it, b/c I'm no longer a full time student. rblee also is not a student. We tried to get people to do it, we posted here, etc. No one would do it. Might try again for Fall 2007, don't know. I think its too late for Fall 2006. I even posted on here that if you wanted to be an officer, all dues would be taken care of and you could play for free. No one was interested. Since I've been back on campus working full time, I can't find many people that really like football. I've had a couple flag football teams and people won't come to practice, a lot of times won't come to games. I've played a couple games down 2 players. 5-on-7. I've had practices where I am literally the only one that showed up. I went to the meeting, I paid for a new NFL football, I gave a couple guys gloves. I feel like a babysitter. When I went to school here (yes I feel like an old man writing this), I played flag every year and I guess I just knew a bunch of guys that liked football. We practiced a lot, we won a lot, etc. It was fun. I played 2 years of club football. Paid $120 each year. Did fundraising. Helped line the field a couple times. Never missed a practice, even when injured for a couple weeks. With flag football, I've recently tried being nice, tried being an asshole and calling people out, tried whatever. Am I just around the wrong people? I'd love to go back and be that age with those people and play again. I do miss it. I had hoped to get one more chance to play some hit football, but its not going to happen. Having a full time job, its hard to get motivated to get/stay in shape, esp. playing shape, and looks like its not going to happen.
