So I want to take my family to dinner after we see the Nutcracker, and I'm just not sure of a place.

I'm looking for a place Uptown Charlotte that you can walk to from the Belk threatre. I want it to be nice, but it would be great if it was a place with plenty of options around $20 a plate (for dinner.)

Please share any experiences that you're had. The bad, the good, the tasty!

Also, an after dinner place, like for dessert would be great (can't be bar, my sis is only 18.)

Thanks!!!

Blue is awesome, might be slightly more expensive than that though.

Top of the Tower Bentlys on 27th that place is THE SHIT...realllllllllly expensive though. Went there for prom they had a special running it was $50 per person but that was a salad, main course, and dessert. Id assume it is pricey when purchasing everything separate as well

What's your order of preference for food, after Italian?

(Btw, you find a job in Charlotte, or there for holidays?)

Lavecchia's and Mimosa. Unos is good it you're not looking to spend a lot of money. Capitol grille is expensive. Bistro 100 is in the same building as Belk theatre. Twist is good and they have live jazz music on Friday and Saturday nights.

Bistro 100 is good. Its right there in Founders Hall as well. Someone rated them as having the best desserts in the city.

is it really called uptown or do you mean downtown. i know manhattan is one of the only places that use the terms in exact (north is uptown south is downtown) but most other places just call their "center" downtonw. somebody explain

it's offically called uptown. used to be downtown, but they thought the term conjured images of a dirty, dangerous inner city or something, so they said "we're gonna call it uptown from now on"

Charlotte downtown is about the only place you can actually safely go to in that area. The city is worse than D.C.

Well, maybe I didn't see enough of good spots in Charlotte but this is the only city where I saw a parking lot in front of a supermarket that had no paint on it used also as a cemetery. That was just bizzare.

Charlotte is freaking huge, you definitely didn't see enough of it. Walk down Graham Street at night (where I cooped) or hang out at Plaza+Central for a good time.

zenobia, you set on walking and dining? Bunch of places near the school you probably hit up as well.

yup. its pretty much the entirety of mecklenburg county. now downtown isn't even 20% of the land area, but the actual area of the city limits is pretty damn big.

[Edited on November 18, 2005 at 1:42 PM. Reason : its not fucking new york, but it makes raleigh look like a suburb.]

OH OK

what's a "big" city, land wise? how many square miles must a city be to be "big"

DO TELL

[Edited on November 18, 2005 at 1:46 PM. Reason : ^New York's actually only about 50 sq. miles bigger]

"While New York City is the most populous city in the United States, Juneau, Alaska is the largest city in area. Juneau includes a whopping 3081 square miles (composed of 2,593.6 mi2 of land and 487.6 mi2 of water.) The city is larger than the state of Delaware!

Officially known as the "City and Borough of Juneau," the city consolidated the City of Douglas, the City of Juneau. and the Greater Juneau Borough Juneau in 1970 to be the country's largest city (map).

Juneau is a perfect example of an "overbounded" city, which refers to a city that has boundaries that extend far beyond its developed area (certainly the glaciers and ice fields in the city won't be developed soon.)

Jacksonville, Florida is the largest in the contiguous 48 states at 841 square miles. Jacksonville includes all of Duval County, Florida with the exception of the beach communities (Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach) and Baldwin."

Charlotte is 241 square miles. Raleigh is 114, but really hasn't annexed any bordering cities to my knowledge but I've only lived here for 5+ years..

It's retarded to judge a city by sq. mileage though. Boston is TINY. Probably 1/4 the sq. mileage of Raleigh even..

Bentlys is awsome! I got engaged there! It is expensive, but worth it! I think most things were around $30 and up a plate. I would highly suggest it, even for a later date!
