I keep getting them on my upper lip from shaving, is there any way to get rid of them or to prevent them from forming. it's really starting to piss me off

i know guys are opposed to this...but why dont you go get it waxed? it won't grow back for atleast 2 weeks and waxing typically doesnt give ingrown hairs.[Edited on November 15, 2005 at 12:26 PM. Reason : .]

Hmm, I usually get them on my neck. Upper lip would suck. I used to have a girlfriend that enjoyed taking care of them...go figure!
11/15/2005 12:28:11 PM
is that even possible? ^^what did she put on them? ^[Edited on November 15, 2005 at 12:30 PM. Reason : ASDF]

could ingrown hairs be the result of using a not-so-new, dull razor?ponder...
11/15/2005 12:29:14 PM
well i use a norelco because it irritates my skin less, the only problem is i dont get as close a shave and i have to shave like 2x a day usuallyi hate fucking shaving
11/15/2005 12:31:14 PM
dont shave up, shave down
11/15/2005 12:31:40 PM
just get your face/neck waxedit's not that expensive, and it lasts for atleast 2 weeks
11/15/2005 12:32:26 PM
but i like shaving. It tickles my insides
11/15/2005 12:37:48 PM
ive got sensitive skin so i think it might rip my face off if i wax that unit. however i love the feeling of my balls after i wax them.
11/15/2005 12:43:24 PM
waxing isn't bad at allpussy

Male waxing is for metrosexuals.
11/15/2005 12:49:43 PM
My neck hurts when I touch it due to shaving. I think that once I am done with this co-op rotation I am just gonna grow a temporary beard over winter break and give the skin some time to heal.
11/15/2005 12:50:20 PM
if it prevents those irritating little red bumps, then why not? you dont have to tell the world you waxed and you know the chinese chick that does it for you can't speak enough english to tell everyone
11/15/2005 12:50:33 PM
There's stuff you can apply that will get rid of the ingrown hair. There's a brand called "TendSkin" (or something like that) that my spa sells. You apply it twice a day until the ingrown hair is gone, then use it daily for a period of time afterward to prevent it from coming back. It also gets rid of bumps caused by shaving or waxing.

^^^Just go electric for awhile, unless you want the beard for other reasons.[Edited on November 15, 2005 at 12:51 PM. Reason : .]

I really like the Gillete post shave healer/lotion. It prevents alot of those red bumbs and it has a great soothing affect! Its only 5 bucks or so, so its worth a shot.

I have found that electric shavers don't give me a close enough shave.
11/15/2005 1:03:36 PM
^That's the point. If your face is irritated/ingrown you don't want that close a shave.
11/15/2005 1:05:13 PM
I use this Gillette shave gel, much better so far than the gel/foam stuff
11/15/2005 1:06:40 PM
clean the area well before you shaveshave with the grain of your face not against itbefore you begin to shave put a hot moist towel to the skin which will bring to surface any clogged pores which will help (other theories: Use a conditioner on your face so that the hair is softer and doesn't irrate the skin so badlysee a dermetologist if your hair is curly (That can cause major problems)).
11/15/2005 1:09:12 PM
I have heard of ingrown nails, but what are in grown hairs?
11/15/2005 1:09:19 PM
hairs that grow up under the skin and cause irritating bumps
11/15/2005 1:11:22 PM
^^seriously?hair that starts growing under the skin[Edited on November 15, 2005 at 1:11 PM. Reason : .]
11/15/2005 1:11:38 PM
I mean if I thought hard enough I could hace deduced that probably. maybe I just do not shave enough to get thembecause I grow my beard out and everything
11/15/2005 1:17:34 PM
1. don't press down as hard when you shave ingrown hairs are usually the result of shaving too closely, usually on dry skin... 2. mosturize with some man lotion3. exfoliate with some more man shit to keep the tip of the hair on the surface. go to eckerds and spend $5-20 and you'll be straight. Clinique for Men has some really nice stuff if you're not too much of a pussy to go to the counter.. they're at Hechts and Belks i usually rub a little bit of rubbing alcohol on my legs after I shave... it's kinda brutal if you have a lot of nicks, but I don't get bumps anymore.
11/15/2005 1:18:00 PM
I forgot what it's called, bumpstopper i think, but get the ones with the black dude on the front with the gross ass bumpsI didn't know white men could get ingrown hairs, I thought it was a coarse, curly hair black man thingAlso, get an electric razor, thats what I use, along with the bump creme and my girl tweezing out anything left after I shave, and my skin gets alot less irritated
11/15/2005 1:38:03 PM
11/15/2005 1:39:42 PM
yeah i gotta go against the grain too
11/15/2005 1:47:29 PM
me too
11/15/2005 1:49:10 PM
ditto
11/15/2005 2:57:00 PM
I have dark/thick hair so if I shave with pretty much anything less then a cheese grater (against the grain) it looks (and feels) like I did nothing.
11/15/2005 2:59:48 PM
where's that thread in The Lounge about shaving with an old school razor? I looked and cant find it
11/15/2005 3:00:33 PM
I had gotten some really bad ingrown hairs on my bikini line at the end of summer from shaving and my surgeon said to use hair conditioner instead of shaving cream as well.
11/15/2005 3:04:22 PM
my gf bought me a bottle of Tend Skin. you apply it like an aftershave and it prevents all of that.
11/15/2005 3:11:43 PM
then at least make sure you stroke with the grain once or twice before going against the grain, so there isn't as much that you're pulling against.also try shaving right after a hot shower, or wash your face with hot water right before shaving.
11/15/2005 3:19:28 PM
I second using this stuffalso use a single blade razor.. double and triple blades cut the hair below the skin.I used to get ingrown hairs from shaving, but it's a lot less these days.
11/15/2005 3:23:18 PM
if you "have" to shave against the grain, then don't bother bitching about ingrown hairs...just make sure you shower before you shave. Exfoliate your face as well. Use a decent shave gel. And don't use aftershave, just splash cold water on your face immediately afterwards to close the pores.if you can't get a close enough shave that way, then just grow a beard because you have no hope.
11/15/2005 3:23:30 PM
I have a lot of irritation on the inside of my neck. I do have to shave against the grain and I shave in the shower... yes, no mirror. I use an aloe gel stuff sometimes, but it never completely goes away. I probably should use new blades... I use them way past the blue stripe. What "man exfoliators" are availible? I could probably use that.[Edited on November 15, 2005 at 3:46 PM. Reason : .]

the best thing i ever did was buy one of those fogless mirrors that you put in your shower so you can shave while taking a shower. works great!!
11/15/2005 4:35:02 PM
yea i have the same problem when i use a straight edge razor, i get razor burn like a son bitch...i actually went out and got a very very nice electric razor and it really does get it very close and its quite pleasing to my little precious skin. I have curly hair as well which REALLY sucks for me but when im not wanting to shave every day, i let it grow a tad and take the beard trimmer part that doesnt get it really close but leaves that '5 o clock' shadow look...kinda scruffy lookin and doesnt get my skin irritated...it works...so many options, but i say get a good lectric

I agree with using a brush to apply the gel/cream and also rinsing your face with cold water to close the pores.I never use the aloe gel cause for some reason my face never liked it and i'd always seem to break out. So i've been using regular barbasol and/or shave soap. For the redness and bumps i highly recommend Neutrogena Razor Defense Face Lotion. I always apply it generously on my neck after a shave and it helps prevent the bumps very well.
