Pioneer Elite player......$900
High Quality Cables..... $150

The pleasure of slamming a piece of RUBARB through the fucker when it keeps fucking up and Pioneer denies your warranty claim...... Priceless.

*note* This was a customer DVD player who had constant issues with it and had a party where it wouldn't work... so instead of a movie... he entertained his guests by beating the ever living crap out of it.

Hello! Do you think common sense was going through this guys head when he put a piece of RUBARB through it? It's still funny and it's sitting on top of the guys cubicle near me.

wtf is RUBARB?

isn't that some sort of vegetable? THat would have been new and unique.

Beating something to death with rebar isn't anything new or special.

Yeah, rhubarb is a plant with edible stalks. Strawberry-rhubarb pie and what not.

I'm a dumbass lol. one guy said he put Rubarb through it so I thought I'd known it as Rebar wrong and didn't think much of it.

So anyway... there's a piece of steel sticking out of a trashed DVD played. Happy?

I had a piece rubarb go through me once... took about 36 hours.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. What is the difference between a $100 DVD player and a $900 DVD player?

About $800.

i read this thread and was VERY upset that you said rubarb, only because I WANTED to see someone kill a dvd player with a vegitable.

Not true

Hook up a standard issue DVD player to a decent sized screen (read >60")

Hook up a computer, or very high end DVD player and switch between the two

It might not be worth your 800

But it most def, is an improvement

why is a computer better than a standard dvd player?

because a computer has CRC checks and needs to read [nearly] every bit of the data because the drive is used for things other than video.

so you could put together a cheap shuttle or something of that nature for much less than $900 and have a DVD player comparable to one of these elite things?

that is what im saying

you would be able to verify 1:1 pixel mapping, and do scale up with more control (read ffdshow).

also would be able to pass direct 2 channel pcm dts encoded tracks through a cheap optical out found on anything produced in the last 3 years with something simple like powerdvd

People with money don't want to configure anything. Plus it has to make a statement.

I don't think there has ever been so many hifi companies than there are now.

I just gave my $400 DVD player to a friend. It was a Sony and this was in 98. How long ago was it when that unit was new?

Is this it? http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews/dv05.html DVD was expensive those days.

Anyone remember how expensive Laser disc was?
