I saw this today and thought it was interesting- Raleigh,NC is the 7th richest city in the US. Crazy.http://www.forbes.com/2005/10/27/cx_sc_1028homeslide_7.html?thisSpeed=90000
11/13/2005 7:23:18 PM
Crazy.
11/13/2005 7:28:42 PM
11/13/2005 7:29:29 PM
No. 2: Anchorage, Alaska
11/13/2005 7:31:26 PM
why did that house cost 2.69 million dollarsnvm
11/13/2005 7:36:07 PM
11/13/2005 7:46:25 PM
damn Virginia Beach is #4
11/13/2005 7:52:11 PM
11/13/2005 7:56:01 PM
Go Raleigh! Not bad for a town with really no downtown at all.
11/13/2005 7:59:01 PM
That house is expensive b/c of the history of it as well as the area. Definitly looks like one of those "inside the beltline" type houses.
11/13/2005 8:12:06 PM
haha raleigh is one of the cheapest cities to live in too, so it kinda works out really goodhaha there are apt's here for like 150 a month if you dont mind living in senterblock apartments with mexicans
11/13/2005 8:20:07 PM
cinderblock
11/13/2005 8:22:37 PM
talk about deceptive journalism
11/13/2005 8:25:05 PM
it's based solely on median income rather than the value of that dollar.if you adjust these cities for cost of living, Raleigh would beat the shit out of #1 San Jose for example. And there are lots of places in the U.S. that would beat the shit out of Raleigh.
11/13/2005 8:35:54 PM
11/13/2005 8:36:52 PM
i bet raleigh has one of the lowest costs of living anywhere in the US
11/13/2005 8:38:07 PM
in terms of dollar power, yes.however, we're (NC) some of the most taxed people in the country.
11/13/2005 8:42:51 PM
#1 -- san jose#3-- san fran (!)
11/13/2005 9:20:31 PM
that house is on oberlin by white memorial presby. church...WAAAAY overpriced
11/13/2005 9:24:09 PM
9 of the top 15 spots should be on the west coast. 4 of the remaining 6 should be in new england, and the remaining two would be in florida.raleigh just happens to have a lot of PhDs.
11/13/2005 9:36:24 PM
yea i still dont understand why its so expenive.....i wouldnt buy it
11/13/2005 9:41:57 PM
some sort of statistical anomaly here...i dont think this list is representative of raleigh...yeah its high priced, but i bet DC/Baltimore/Alexandria, etc are more
11/13/2005 9:50:36 PM
DC's housing bubble is in the midst of burstinghttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/10/AR2005111002241.html
11/13/2005 9:53:23 PM
yea i'll agree with anchorage...dude even there hotels are expensive to stay in...i went shopping there and its crazy
11/13/2005 9:56:03 PM
Oh yeh I've seen that house. The biggest one is across the street from the "Twin" houses. Yeh houses all around hillsborough/cameron village/ridge rd/lake boone trl/wade/glenwood etc are expensive.
11/13/2005 10:13:15 PM
11/13/2005 10:40:02 PM
Norfolk is a shitpiece and a half. Chesapeake is a shitpiece and a half. Virginia Beach isn't that bad...I just damn sure didn't think it was one of the richest city's in the country.
11/13/2005 10:58:41 PM
I always thought Charlotte had a higher median income than Raleigh, along with some freakin huge houses.
11/13/2005 11:04:46 PM
holla
11/13/2005 11:47:03 PM
thats interesting...and 48,000 doesn't seem that high for a median household income
11/13/2005 11:49:11 PM
11/13/2005 11:56:45 PM
11/13/2005 11:58:13 PM
^yeah i was curious...is this because of the no lottery thing?...is it going down after we get a lottery?[Edited on November 13, 2005 at 11:58 PM. Reason : will the lottery lower taxes ANY?]
11/13/2005 11:58:17 PM
11/14/2005 12:09:09 AM
^^actually lottery states statistically have higher taxes than non-lottery states. the lottery just brings in extra $texas for the government to waste (Seotaji beat me to it)^^^we usually come in 1st or 2nd in the southeast and top fifth nationwide in most think tank surveys, but I can't think of any names at the moment [Edited on November 14, 2005 at 12:12 AM. 11/14/2005 12:11:54 AM
LOOK HOW RALEIGH IS LIVIN', AMERRRRCAFO THA CITAAAYYYYYYY
11/14/2005 12:19:50 AM

11/14/2005 12:20:54 AM
^correct.I came up around there
11/14/2005 12:49:29 AM
11/14/2005 12:58:35 AM
I think tommorrow, I will look at statistics and come up an analysis based on 2 factors.
11/14/2005 1:19:02 AM
i question this
11/14/2005 5:33:43 AM
^^^true, but when studies by teh L3ft, teh R1ght and teh g0v all say basically the same thing, it's probably safe to say the truth lies somewhere in that general vicinity I'll try to look for a few if I have time after class.
11/14/2005 10:58:25 AM
i alone make above the median income here in #5 san diego, but my girlfriend and i combined can't afford a house anywhere near the median house cost....
11/14/2005 11:50:13 AM
I'm suprised at VA Beach making #4it seems like a regular cheap seaside town to me. Like Myrtle Beach but two states up
11/14/2005 12:44:34 PM
Ever driven through the homes on the northern side?
11/14/2005 12:46:36 PM
this is exactly why i'm not looking forward to moving if the fiance goes to grad school anywhere besides the triangle.
11/14/2005 1:56:46 PM
Gamecat,I'm looking at the same thing here. GF going to medical school and I've got to support her through it
11/14/2005 3:05:16 PM
^^ I was going to start law school this year and I was told to go to the school in the area where I wanted to practice (which is NYC area). Well cost of living, safe to say, is out of this world. If I could goto law school in North Carolina I would do it in a heartbeat but if I do it is unlikely I'd be given a job in my sector in NYC (corporate law). Instead of getting a jump on law school I had to work an extra year (possibly 2) to afford to move.. My parents moved from Raleigh #7 to San Fran #3 ** my g/f is in Vet School in FLA and she is lucky b/c finding a job in here area isn't dependent on where she went to school.. I couldn't imagine the debt we'd both be in if we both had to pay tuition and high cost of livingOh and as far as the cost of living thing comparing Raleigh to S.F. My parents built a house here the same size as the one they bought near San Francisco and the house in S.F. cost literally $900,000 more and there is NO yard...[Edited on November 14, 2005 at 3:23 PM. Don't get me wrong. IF we can possibly afford to live in San Fran or Santa Cruz, I'm sure I'd love it.It just pisses me off that your money doesn't go nearly as far in CA as here.
11/14/2005 3:36:51 PM
yeah but california is a lot nicer
