The Wire, in my opinionIt's backdrop for the story (Gangs, drugs, ghetto) dosen't seem too appealing for mass audiences, but anyone who just likes good TV period should check this shit out (i got the DVDs if you need em :coolBut I never hear anyone talking about it anywhere
11/10/2005 3:06:38 PM
Yeah, I've been meaning to watch that but I never have.
11/10/2005 3:11:20 PM
I have no idea what you're talking about
11/10/2005 3:11:21 PM
apparently The Office... well, 5 million or so, but it's only half of who watch Earl right before it. But it's good enough for a full season, so hopefully it'll pick up
11/10/2005 3:12:09 PM
uhnot a series, per saybut INTERVENTIONnow that i don't have HBO, there aren't many shows that I make time for, but this is one of them[yea, the wire is good too tho, my dad of all people got me watching the hell out of that shit]
11/10/2005 3:22:10 PM
Formerly Titus. Like 5 years ago formerly.
11/10/2005 3:28:05 PM
Titus was fucking horrible.
11/10/2005 3:28:41 PM

the wire is great - but I haven't had HBO in like 3-4 years, so I haven't seen it recently.did it get canned?
11/10/2005 4:16:19 PM
nah, comin back in 06just been a long ass break because they didnt know if they were being resigned for a 4th season
11/10/2005 4:20:06 PM
2 and a half menwell im sure alot of people watch it actually, acting is terrible but situations are quite comedic
11/10/2005 5:27:59 PM
I'm not sure how many watch it, but Medium is a great show. The whole psychic housewife premise kept me from watching the first season, but I just kinda landed on it one night while flipping and found out that it's really good.
11/10/2005 5:32:17 PM
Titus rocked. grounded for life was pretty funny too.Seaquest DSV is the historical winner
11/10/2005 5:32:49 PM
Sports Night is the actual historical winner. Futurama's original FOX run comes in second.Currently, it's Scrubs(there's a guaranteed full season coming up that has yet to make its season premiere). I don't know if it's specifically because no one wants to watch the smartest thing on television in years because they'd rather see jokes about being dumb and hungry on Joey or if it's because NBC keeps fucking around and won't give Scrubs a solid timeslot because they think people would rather see jokes about being dumb and hungry or about being very very very gay and dumb on Will & Grace.Or maybe The Biggest Looser is just a cultural juggernaut that won't be denied...
11/10/2005 5:48:50 PM
Sports Night was ahead of its time.
11/10/2005 5:52:26 PM
Yes, Dear
11/10/2005 5:53:29 PM
i've been mad because i've missed the past few Scrubs seasons, mainly b/c i can never keep up w/when it's on tv.^are you kidding me?]

I've been talking about the Wire for ages. I love the first two seasons. Has the third come out yet, I need to get caught up.But, Veronica Mars is something pretty great. Get past a girl as the lead, it is smart, hilarious, and brilliantly plotted. Also, dark. Get the DVDs.
11/10/2005 5:59:46 PM
myeough, i use my comedy to stroke my ego while i feign laughter with my friends, all the while pontificating as to the true meaning of what we just heard. i also drink pinot, snack on wafers with bree', and play lacrosse.in short, fuck your elitism. it's not smart. everybody gets it. just not everybody thinks its funny. stop using shit to make yourself feel more intellectual because you watch a goddamn tv show.and this comes from a guy who loves scrubs, the office, sports night, AND the "dumb" comedies you so quaintly look down on.[Edited on November 10, 2005 at 6:01 PM. Sports Night would definitely be the real winner.I did like Grounded for Life, but I stopped watching after it got shuffled around to a different network. Donal Logue (or however the fuck you spell his name) is cool.
11/11/2005 1:11:02 AM
the wire is in a little different situation because it was on HBO, so that alone alienates a giant piece of the audience. i didnt like sports night when it was on, but later realized how great it was, i also got into scrubs when my friend had the dvds, but it seems like theres somewhat of an audience for it.seems like that show freaks and geeks people loved, but didnt have much of an audience, i only saw it like once though.anyone ever watch that show unhappily ever after?? that show was fucking hilarious[Edited on November 11, 2005 at 1:26 AM. Freaks and Geeks is wonderful. It's a fucking shame they didn't make more of it.Keep in mind that the season 5 premiere of The Sopranos was the number one show in the ratings in a very competetive time slot, so the HBO thing isn't a complete explanation for The Wire.
11/11/2005 1:32:35 AM
Dora the Explorer

The Wire by far. the best storytelling, period. biggest scope, best hands-down. If you don't like the gangs drugs, etc.. there's also a cop show, city hall, docks, and a prison show. I haven't seen season 3 but the promise of more brother mauzzone and proposition joe has me dying for the season 3 DVD to come out. also, dennis lehane and richard price being added as writers.. sweet jesus.it has as good singular installments (the penultimate episodes of both seasons 1 and 2, both written by crime/mystery-novel-God George Pelecanos come to mind) as any show on TV. aside from the gushing over the wire, arrested development just got cut down from 22 to 13, meaning it'll likely get cancelled. a fucking shame. really fucking funny, own both DVD sets. and might as well mention the disrespect buffy seems to get from non-viewers as a serious show. they might have dumb titles, but buffy and angel were great, great TV.
11/11/2005 2:02:08 AM
Freaks & Geeks is also the winner for the greatest DVD packaging of all time.I'm inclined to say Arrested Development because it'll be on the verge of cancellaton forever, but my answer for a fantastic show that people really aren't watching is Degrassi: The Next Generation and/or Radio Free Roscoe.
11/11/2005 2:06:34 AM
THE WIRE OWNS ALL. I still need to watch seasons 1 and 2, but i watched all of season 3 religiously last year and CAN'T WAIT UNTIL 2006 FOR SEASON 4!
11/11/2005 7:32:17 AM
i saw about 5 minutes of the wire and it was a kid shooting a dog that was hanging by its neck choking to death. sorry, little too "gritty" for me

I think "Eli's Coming" is the better of the two.But I don't think either one is the best episode of television ever made. I don't even know how I would go about starting to think how I would decide that.

sounds like a good thread to me...
