I have an Iomega USB external HDD. Simple question, should it spin constantly?

Obviously I could cut it off but I have it set to back-up everday. Won't the HDD running constantly lessen the product life?

I would look online for a FAQ about it and see if the issue is discussed. there may be a utility/setting you need to setup to force the drive to spin down after X minutes of inactivity.

infrequent access will make ^ kill the drive a lot faster
