I certainly hope so, because if they screw up 2006, they should just go ahead and dissolve their entire party leadership and let someone else have a shot.

me, as a republican, am scared. Hopefully, Bush will follow the pattern set forth by Reagan... low approval rating after a scandal... ends office in the high 60s and passes his torch on.

the republicans are screwed if they keep pretending nothings wrong

tell me what exactly the democrats gained in these most recent elections?as far as I can tell the only places they "scored" were in NJ (which, lets be honest, no republican will ever win) and in VA where the guy "ran as a conservative"

two democratic governors were just succeeded by... two democratic candidatesOMF DEMOCRATS ARE TEH WINZif this is how you guys measure "getting your shit together" then no wonder your party is sucking so hard[Edited on November 9, 2005 at 3:26 PM. Reason : s]

What do political gains have to do with Dems shaping up?This is about a red state election in which Bush actively campaigned going to a democrat. It demonstrates that the tide is turning. Actual gains have nothing to do with my point.[Edited on November 9, 2005 at 3:32 PM. Reason : emphasis]

You mean the Democrats managed not to lose literally everything. Which you took as a good sign.

in reference to the thread title, i dont think the democrats really have their shit together...i just think the republican party's shit is finally catching up with them.all the dems have to do is lay low and watch the repubs self-destruct.

More like : Kilgore didn't want a sinking president campaigning for him.I agree overall though, there isn't enough evidence that "the tide is turning."
11/9/2005 3:49:30 PM
when your opponent is committing political suicide, you don't jump in the fray, you let it happen which is what the dems are doing. Smart tactic for now. But I think things will be better by the time the 06 midterms roll around.

A funny comment I heard on the Diane Rheme show this morning that sadly sums up my opinion of 2006:

I'm a Republican. Kilgore ran an AWFUL campaign. Kaine is Warner's right-hand man. It's standard politics, not rocket science.
