yep... that is true, and true for my '01 F150 too. It's related to the cruise control. Damn, I need to make time to go get that done.

If you are worried about it, unplug the connector on the very front of the brake master cylinder. Fires start when the diaphragm inside the brake pressure switch breaks and allows brake fluid to reach the wiring, where it shorts to ground, heats and starts the fire. You can also cut the power wire and move it to a switched 12V source and install a small fuse, say 1-3 amps at most. That way if it shorts, it won't do it when the vehicle is parked, and it should blow the fuse if the vehicle is turned on. The repair that the dealer is going to make is to put a fuse in-line between the switch and the wiring. You can do the same thing yourself if you don't want to wait for the dealer to get the parts.
