i'm open to new programs and i've used firefox a couple of times on campus, but i don't understand what the big fascination is. i'm not a very technical person and my standards are limited to browsing at a decent speedy pace. i tried googling it and i searched tech talk (btw- look at most of the topic names: http://www.brentroad.com/message_search.aspx?type=topic§ion=3&searchstring=firefox&username=&usertype=match&sortby=date&sortorder=descending&page=) but i still don't "get it"i don't want to start trash-talking, trolling, etc. i'd really like to know some specifics from users.

I'm absolutely addicted to the tabbed browising and mouse gesturesto the point that I can't really use a public machine without getting extremely frustrated. But the most attractive quality is that it's infinitely configurable.Go into the Firefox Extension threads - load up stuff like AdBlock, MouseGestures, Sage, and a whole host of others and you'll never turn back.

i use maxthonit has most of the extensions that you'd go looking for already built-in and it's the IE engine so no major problems with plugins

I love the tabs

^^ eh opera's alright, for some reason it seems to run shitty on my machine compared to firefox
11/9/2005 12:55:04 AM
^ kinda strange, i have the exact opposite problem. FF runs slower than opera and sometimes IE on my computer.

have they fixed FF's memory problem yet? i won't even touch it without that being fixed.

i do it for the tabs. i never got spyware with IE, i tried out lots of extensions but ended up removing all of them. i just like the tabs

The main extension I use expands my uses of tabbed browsing. Can take a little time to play around with the first time and find exactly how you want your tabs to work, but it's great.http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/tabextensions/index.html.enI've got it set to create new tabs for any sites not in the current site's domain, which is a big thing for me.

firefox is too slow for me, opera doesn't run right with all the fonts I have installed, gonna fix that with a format in a few weeks hopefully. Avantbrowser has worked great for me for years, blocks popups, ads, has tabs and mouse gestures, very simple and clean interface, and quite speedy for me, about the same speed as Opera, much faster than Firefox.

Tabbed browsing is the biggie for me.

has anyone mentioned http://www.opera.com yet?

one more vote for Avant Browsereverything on the net displays correctly for it because it uses the IE engine.I don't know how you people pickup so much spyware. What kind of sites are you going to?I run my adware sweepers about once a month and I never get anything other than a bunch of cookies.

Something I really hate about IE that I've noticed after editing a site and checking it in IE and Firefox...IE seems to zoom in on all images. Which is fine in most circumstances, but makes things look horrible others.
