most people buy it for the name, so I think most people are okay with getting a cheap fake......however for the people who actually buy it for performance then.....well you should know better than to buy a $50 dollar jacket that normally costs a couple hundred.

A couple hundred?

Haha, no wonder that's why all the white kids are wearing them.

If you cant tell the fake shit on ebay, you shouldn't be buying cloths off there, and generating revenue for the makers of the pseudo garbage (location-thailands a clue). Go benefit the economy in more productive ways like blow your "wad" on porn. Everyone loves it even if it's fake.

north face is crap brand new anyways. about 10-15 years ago they were pretty good, really serious gear. then they figured out they could make more money if they marketted to the people in cary who drive land rovers and shit like that and quality went south REALLY quickly.

I don't know, I got an authentic Coach for 30 bucks.....It had the papers, and the serial number....but the guy said it had been stolen from the factory. But hey, it's ok, cause I got other stuff too. Maybe that's dumb, but I'm not paying 300+ for a purse.

I used to work for a company that did embroidery. It takes about a half a second to digitize a NF logo, and maybe two minutes to embroider one out. One of my coworkers at the franchise said there was another store that bought generic fleeces at wholesale and put the Norhtface logo on them and sold them.

and the thing is, generic fleece is still about as warm as a basic north face jacket. the stuff that makes good gear good is the stiching, the reinforcing material, the cut, the fact the hood is big enough to let you wear a helmet, all that stuff. a lot of newer north face stuff just *breaks down* after light use, and that's the stuff that really makes it shit for a professional.

marmot used to be the sanctuary for people who used to use TNF, and now their quality is going down as they become more popular. it's because of retail outlet stores that this gear has been pushed to the "consumer", and as a result quality generally suffers. out of this new consumer market a lot of new brands have surfaced trying to keep it real for the people that use and need the good gear out in the woods. moonstone, arc'teryx (sp), and cloud veil just are a couple.

it's people in the city who buy this stuff beacuse they think it's cool, like having a $400 gore-tex jacket really makes a difference. people in the industry pro-deal that stuff anyways and very seldom pay "retail"

anways, yeah, uhm, don't buy TNF anywhere, unless you want a jacket to last a little while and fall apart.

I've got some marmot rain pants and jacket from a couple years ago. Great stuff. Don't really know about the quality now. But yeah, TNF has gone way downhill. One of my friends used to be all about it (he actually did use it), now proclaims they are crap. Guess that's how marketing/sales/production works. Oh well.

yeah, i'll agree with ya there.

i've got a real and fake TNF jacket and they pretty much started falling apart at the same time. they work exactly the same (bonded seams, reinfored stitching, etc...).

north face blows, if you are going to spend the kind of money go for mtn hardwear or patagonia is good, hell, if you got the money for true north face, may as well go arc'teryx.
