I've got a not kosher copy of Win XP. I've never downloaded SP1 because I was told that if I did, XP wouldn't run correctly. Is it the same for SP2? Is it needed?

is it needed? no. but if u want to cut down on spyware and intrusions into ur system i would install SP2. also, if u want future windows updates u need SP2.

Buy Windows and save yourself some headaches. It will be worth the cash in the long run.

i only go legit because it's free from MSDN heh

If you can't get it free from MSDN then you can buy it from the bookstore for about $70 or so which is much, much cheaper then buying it from best Buy or anywhere else like that.On the other hand, there is still a way to get around the SP2 verification tool. You can set it up to update automatically and it will update or you can still use the javascript line to disable it. Supposedly they fixed it but I used the Javascript line a couple of nights ago and it worked fine for me!

you can just change the key your copy of windows is activated with. MS even has a KB article about it. look around a bit, you'll figure it out
