respect for their opinions1. pryderi2. salisburyboy3. THABIGL4. JerryGarcia5. Crazywade6. xyzabcthere are people like Dirtygreek and Kris who I will almost NEVER agree with, but for various reasons, I can read things they write and see something besides "DUMBASS DUMBASS DUMBASS DUMBASS DUMBASS"

i think salisburyboy has been on to some really hot leads...

I would add a few more people, but I concur with that list.I thought this thread was about New Orleans, though.

11/3/2005 12:22:16 PM
MathFreak and 0EP would insist that virtually everyone on here should be on that list, and I would be at the top of it.And, incidentally, 0EP commands no respect for his opinions, either.
11/3/2005 12:24:18 PM
11/3/2005 12:25:25 PM
Oh yeah, OEP, he should be on the list.
11/3/2005 12:26:38 PM
^^^no, both of them fall into that Dirtygreek/Kris/etc category that I mentioned, in my opinion.I mean, I'll look past crazy ideas and biases as long as there is evidence of somewhat clear thought processes behind it.there's a difference between being an outright dumbass and being an ideologue, not being grounded in the real world, and/or having some ideas that are way out there.[Edited on November 3, 2005 at 12:29 PM. ^^ Me too. [Edited on November 3, 2005 at 12:37 PM. Reason : ^^]

^ and ^^^, you should feel special. You are special. It's just, well, in the Olympics sense of the word.
11/3/2005 12:41:08 PM
well, i am VERY much a pragmatist, so ideologues make me scratch my head sometimes. i've seen MathFreak say (and i'm paraphrasing, here) "well, i don't really like this idea at all, but it fits my ideology, so i'll support it."i think that's the wrong way to look at things, but that's something different than what is (or rather, isn't) going on in the minds of the people i mentioned.and i see a definite distinction between the attitude of 0EP111 and JerryGarcia. 0EP basically just disagrees with some American policies (albeit in a rather venemous way sometimes), but he'll still give credit where credit is due. i think he's probably a pretty decent guy. JerryGarcia is a dirtbag, and I get the feeling that he pretty much hates and looks down on everything between Cape Hatteras and Honolulu.
11/3/2005 12:49:09 PM
^ in response to duke866...again ... truth hurts. the problem is that perhaps many are living in so much darkness, that you dont know the difference between what is right and wrong anymore. its all a blurr. hence, 'demand no respect for their opinions.' you are free to think up whatever you wish.
11/3/2005 12:52:25 PM
Just realize that I'm jumping to the defense of DirtyGreek and [user]0EP111[/user], but still lumping you in with salisburyboy and THABIGL.It has nothing to do with disparity of our opinions on anything.[Edited on November 3, 2005 at 12:55 PM. Reason : and if THAT truth doesn't hurt...]

So THABIGL really isn't a pseudonym that some is just messing around with? You have to be kidding.I'd agree with the initial list (though I don't remember ever seeing Crazywade so can't say either way). And I also agree that even though some people, like DG, have significantly different viewpoints from my own I know that they aren't mentally unbalanced... just misguided

this list seems blatantly partisansorry everything in here isnt "support our troops! any redistribution is evil! we're shining a beacon of freedom! france sucks! conservatives know americas values!"im sure some people would rather read that, but tough.
11/3/2005 10:16:14 PM
good thread. but you cant lump salsbury/pyeredi with the rest of emsals is on a special tier
11/3/2005 10:16:57 PM
well, there is a difference b/w getting news from the ny times and getting news from prison planet.seems like pyderi at least draws from well-known media sources (LIBERAL CONSPIRACY SOURCES)

^^^^^that post seems blatantly wrongout of my original 7, i count 3 people i'd categorize as part of the "left", 2 from the "right", and one from another planet (who was, once upon a time, a nutjob member of the extreme right...and really, i'd still categorize him as part of the right, but he's so far out there that he makes your average Wyoming militiaman look like Dennis Kucinich)^pryderi is second only to salisburyboy, who is indeed on his own special tier. a couple of the others are very close behind, though.oh, and BEU and okydoky get my nomination, too.[Edited on November 3, 2005 at 10:25 PM. 11/3/2005 10:28:15 PM
basically, my intention here was to serve as an intervention of sorts. some of these people probably know that they aren't in the political mainstream, but maybe it'll do them some good to see their names on a short list with established loons. i mean, these are the people who, when i see that a thread was posted by them, i rarely even click on it.sometimes it helps to get an outside point of view.[Edited on November 3, 2005 at 10:32 PM. 11/3/2005 10:38:00 PM
Am I an idealogue?I know my ideas might seem kind of out there, but that's only because they are so distantly in the future. I don't want America to be communsit right now, I just wish for us to continue the progressive path. My short term goals are no different than that of most other democrats.I've always considered myself the most real of realists.[Edited on November 3, 2005 at 10:39 PM. Reason : ]

^ I really hate communism, so speak for yourself. I don't hate it because of the totalitarianism it is usually associated with, I hate it because it sounds like common-sense to people which then attempt to apply it and every single time they just end up making life a little more miserable here on planet earth.
11/3/2005 11:35:05 PM
yep. thats a good reason to hate it. but, what you hate is not really communism. You hate the mis-application of communism which almost always seems to occur when communism is attempted.
