Hey, I've got a firewire 60GB hard drive that has started to make some loud noises. It is failing to mount in OSX. What I need to do is get the date recovered off of it before I can send it off to see what is wrong with it. Anyone have any ideas who can do this for me?

geeksquad. they can even send it off for a full data recovery if you need the info that bad. there is one geeksquad location that has a clean room. i think its in Cali but can cost you any where from $250+

DudeGeeksquad people think that A/Cs heat rooms...I am sure you'd trust them with your hard drive data.

^^they can do it for a lot cheaper in the store. I'm not sure on your computer skills lvl so i don't know what you've tried but you can give that a shot. $250 is only if they can't fix it in store.

What do you think it will cost in store? Also, this is Best Buy we're talking about, right?

If the drive has already failed, your fucked. Data recovery at that point will cost thousands. If the drive won't mount and I'm assuming that opening the case would void your warrenty, you should go ahead and send the drive in for warrenty repair/replacement. It's most likely not worth thousands of your dollars to get your data back.

^^yeah its best buy. i don't remember how much it costs. $89 i think.

Ok, so I, more or less, turned the thing on its side/at an angle/tapped it a few times, but I was able to transfer all the data to a friends computer. Anyone have any idea what the deal is with this thing? I'm positive that I am going to send it off for warranty repair/replacement, but I just wanted to get a few thoughts.

if you want data recovery, i'll do it for $50...if i can't salvage anything, then you don't pay anything

^he just said that he had got all the files off onto a friends computermy suggestion is since all the files are off of it now. send that bad boy in and get a new one. I wouldn't trust a hard drive on it's way out
