I need some help, can you wire up a 220 outlet in my garage?
11/1/2005 11:26:58 AM
^ shoot me a pm with some specifics, i could probably do that for ya sometime this week
11/1/2005 12:33:29 PM
Those aint show trucks, those were built for offroad use only. They justed looked good to. If you want to know the specs let me know because all three of them performed extremely well and were built tough.
11/1/2005 1:38:21 PM
I also need help runnin 220 in my dads garage this weekend, only problem is it's back in Mooresville . . .

Just cause they aint tubed out rockcrawlers doesn't mean they arn't capable off road. Don't get me wrong rockcrawling is the s***, but I (like many other people) like mud too, If not maybe a little bit more.
11/1/2005 2:55:10 PM
All three of those vehicles were great mud runners and awesome for trail riding. The blue bronco also performed very well on the rocks. Some people like good old fashioned engineering and dont want to waste all their money on exspensive ass rock crawlers. Some of us just like to trail ride and all three of those vehicles were built for that purpose and for the purpose of a daily driver as well. These are the types of vehicles most people enjoy. Not all of us are going to go out and waste money on a vehicle that can only perform on the rocks.

I might need your services.
11/1/2005 3:26:42 PM
i think bigblue is just making a crack about how they were built, big tires and doesnt look like a lot of flex on some of them. that's my .02. i dont think he saying it should have been a tube crawler
11/1/2005 4:17:40 PM
Tru that, but you don't really need alot of flex for mud, and big tires are a must
11/1/2005 4:36:27 PM
Big tarz and bigger motors, y'all.

no offense but zxappeal seems like a way better qualified guy. also he's 10 dollars cheaper an hour and has mad credentials already established all over tww, including myself and my roomate.i think ur trying to enter into a monopoly but the best of luck to you (woot for ZXAPPEAL)
11/1/2005 10:44:04 PM
I thought he quit though.

11/1/2005 10:58:16 PM
I don't think ZXAPPEAL is professional...if his profession is car repair.I mean it's ok to hate someone on TWW...but then I am in a completely different league...and you all can do nothing about me except whine.
11/1/2005 11:03:22 PM
zxappeal is about as professional as they get when it comes to automotive knowledge/repair, though it's not his fulltime job. plus, he's actually intelligent and posesses reasoning and decision making skills. this is where 90% of "professional" mechanics are lacking. they might have years of hands on experience, but fall apart and screw shit up when presented with an unseen problem.
11/1/2005 11:11:21 PM
Damn...thanks, Ivan. The feeling is mutual, man.Can you feel da love?
11/2/2005 12:03:08 AM
yeah, zxappeal knows his shit pretty damned welland i'm not a 4x4 guru, but i don't see how anything else could be more versatile than a rockcrawling rig.

11/2/2005 12:28:41 AM
^^i don't claim to know anything like the back of my hand. he's advertising to do alot more than just simple things, it says he can do anything at all. i'd just like to hear what his qualifications are to work on people's cars. so far it sounds like he's just another redneck with a wrench.

First, I have been tearing apart, building, and fixing cars for the past 8 years. I have worked with one of the best engine builders in raleigh who came down from new york. I helped him on many of his cars while he did machine work. I have done over 100 brake jobs for friends, family, neighbors, and random people. I have replaced quite a few engines, one i did a few months ago was in a 2002 rsx with a turbo install. I have lifted 3 of my own vehicles and done some work on a few of my friends aswell. I have done custom stereo installs on plenty of cars and trucks, built a custom system for two vehicles and have built 5 different exhaust systems for custom cars. I am an experienced welder and builder. Im not looking to do this as a profession but as a hobby to make a few bucks on the side so i can finish my 4runner project. I also know its hard to find good cheap work. My experience is very good and if you dont trust me then dont ask for my help. As for my three vehicles. They were all built for less than 5grand, the blue one cost the most at 5 and the red chevy cost only 3500 while the black ford cost 1800. They were built cheap with parts i bought and fixed. The paint jobs were done by myself. Thje interior was done with cheap fabric that i found on sale. All of them sold for a profit as well too. I made 7grand on the blue 5 grand on the red and 2400 on the black. So they all were nice daily drivers that could be trusted offroad aswell. They also were able to run some nice trails offroad. I ran the bronco through some deep mud holes and the 460 powering it made it very capable in any terrain, including the rocks. If you want to keep trashing the 3 vehicles thats fine but all of them worked great offroad and everyone who i offroaded with would agree. Im done talking about those three, keep trashing if you like, i know you cant please all and thats fine.As for rockcrawling you are right it has brought some of the best engineering but again not everyone can afford it or build them on their own. Right now i am modifying a 1988 4runner to be a fully capable offroad only vehicle. The rear is a dana 60, front is a 44 from a 3/4 ton and both locked and packed with 4:56 gears. The front is a 4 link suspension while the rear is still leafs. The lift is big but the tires are still 38.5s. It will run in the mud but the way i built the rear it flexes pretty damn well. I know it would be better on smaller tires but i got a deal on all the parts so ill make them work. Again the reason i am offering services is because i have started my own business so my money is going into that, anything i make on the side fuels my offroading vehicles. Again talk all the shit if you want but those are my vehicles, my credentials, and my views.
11/2/2005 10:14:16 AM
If the other guy was 25 an hour then ill drop to the same price, $25 an hour.
11/2/2005 10:16:53 AM
Dude, charge whatever you want. Now there are several folks to choose from. Everybody is happy. My services are still available, but I don't have a lot of free time. Not as much as I would like.My advice for everybody who's looking for a good mechanic is to find somebody you like and stick with them. You try this guy, you like him, keep using him.Same goes for me.

YES! The runner gets an honorable mention! Talking about cheap rigs...How bout mine that I've got less than $1k in and it and it's decently capable. Damn what I wouldn't give to have $4k more to sink into it. It'd be a beast! But I'm broke married guy, so I have to deal with what I've got.I'd pit mine against those three big things at uwharrie or tellico any day. And I had to take the lift OFF of this truck, b/c I wanted it lower.[Edited on November 2, 2005 at 3:04 PM. Reason : .][Edited on November 2, 2005 at 3:07 PM. Reason : .]

all this talk makes me want to buy the 94 cruiser my pa is trying to get me . all i have to do is cope with the 13mpg oh yeah this could take any rig off road (haha not) look at the lack there of that lift, (just bigger shackles, and the stock axles.lol[Edited on November 2, 2005 at 5:22 PM. 11/2/2005 5:21:19 PM
^those are actually pretty strong axles. throw some treated birfields in, and they'll hold up to 36's all day long, 38's with a light foot. that's locked up and doing tough trails. a stock fj's main limitation is the suspension. [Edited on November 2, 2005 at 5:30 PM. Reason : .]

I like haveing the lifts on the big side so i can have the option of running any tire i want, being if i enter the mud run then i can run the 44's and if i am trail riding then the 38.5s will work. I like to run the trails after lots of rain so i have been in some deep ruts before and i buried my runner when it was stock twice in two different creeks. The lift aint huge but the top of the tires will run at the bottom of the body. My steering is full hydraulic in the front, nothing in the rear. That way i dont have to run links or use to much power. The only thing under the hood will be the 351M V8 unless i can get my hands on something else. The t19 works great for a transmission with the granny gear, it can take lots of abuse. The NP205 is practically bullet proof. I built all my old trucks with whatever i had to cut costs, that way when i turn them around to sell i can make more. Ive been doing this for 6 years now. I planned on selling off the vehicles to make money to build the one i like. All of those were deals i found cheap. I personally like the runners and smaller vehicles since you can run better trails. I know its hard to believe that a 9 inch and dana 44 can handle 38 inch tires. Usually you dont want to run anything over 35s on a dana 44. A 9inch can take some abuse though. My mechanic friend uses them in all his dragsters that are running hp numbers in the 600 plus category on street rods. I push all my vehicles to their limits. The bronco was built tough and stood up well, i knew its limits and still it took punishment. I know what its like to do some hardcore offroading. It took it, granted i would hold back in many rock type areas but in the mud and trails it held its own. The small ford decent as well only having 33's and again took everything i gave it, the only thing that busted was the driveshafts, front and rear when i used the granny gear to get out of a mud hole. I got stuck in 2wd though. The red chevy had a 10bolt front which sucks and i had 40 inch hawgs on it but since they wouldnt balance i switched to 35s and again it killed offroad the only thing that really went bad was the engine overheating a little in a mud hole when it got stuck but again that was in two wheel drive and both times i was buried past the doors and almost got out. once in 4wd they went right out. If you know your vehicles limits and build it pretty tough and dont do stupid shit then you shouldnt have to much worry offroad.

that was the shitty one my dad restored, the next one he lifted, a lil more and it had the lower geared tranny, it maxed out at about 60 but it was fun to play with... well if i could have bastard never let me drive the orange one i would love to find an old fj40 maybe that's what ill try to look for with my dad, that i can kinda help him restore and can be my dd.
