After sat. night being at a party, me and my friend had the pleasure of getting a ride back to our place from campus police. during the ride, he informed us that campus police will soon have city wide jurisdiction. so that may mean that if rpd catches u drinking, they could call campus police and have the school punish u instead of the rpd giving a drinking ticket. but there are so many possibilities from this one little change that campus police can go anywhere in city limits.

Does anyone know who decides this... is it the City Council or some other group? This is interesting.

If anyone has views on this please comment!!! I'll be sure to forward them along.

^^^Really. It's not that hard. Dude, I can't believe that law enforcement officers are actually making efforts to enforce the law! Now I can't get fucked up as care-freely as I used to.

American parties are retarded anyway. A bunch of people who don't know eachother get together and smell eachother's sweat. Buy/cook a dinner, get some nice alcohol and speand a night with a few of your friends eating and talking.

To each his own.

Some people like to go out and drink amongst a large crowd and meet new people and/or hang out with a bunch of their friends.

Some people like to stay in and drink with a few of their friends and just "hang out".

Some people choose not to drink and entertain themselves in other ways.

Bottom line is to not do anything stupid that will get you in trouble. Don't drink and drive...don't act stupid and drunk in public. And if you're underage and drinking at a party...have a good escape route in case police breakup the party and start checking IDs .

repost from the other thread. its always been that way.

http://www.ncsu.edu/public_safety/Department/Jurisdiction.html

Quote :
"The jurisdiction of the North Carolina State University Police Department includes all property owned or leased by NC State University and that portion of any public road or highway passing through the campus and immediately adjoining the campus.

The NC State University Police Department have mutual aid agreements with the City of Raleigh and the Wake County Sheriff's Department. NC State University Police Department jurisdiction can be extended into those areas when the department receives a request for assistance. In addition, an NC State University Police Officer have various mutual aid agreements with other universities throughout the sixteen campus systems to provide assistance during a special event or emergency. Honestly, even if it is RPD that catches you doing something wrong, the University states in the Student Code of Conduct that you can be subject to judicial action on campus for actions committed off campus. You can wind up in Student Conduct or with a Campus Appearance Ticket for stuff that happens in a different state. This actually seems to cut out some of the crap you'd have to deal with - you only have to deal with campus rather than campus and the Wake County Courts.

^^^^like the leg said, its always been that way. however, if they really do extend the jurisdiction, then im gonna get like 80 gazillion speeding tickets. because i know i go at least 1 over.

This is nothing new. As jackleg posted, they have full jurisdiction everywhere in Raleigh. They're full Raleigh police offices, just on the university's payroll. If you get busted for underage drinking in Chapel Hill, the cops there will call the university here in Raleigh and let them know. Then you'll not only have to deal with the police, but the student conduct office as well.

you are getting punished twice, but thats not abnormal. If you get busted for a DUI, i know alot of companies that will fire you. Most places wont fire you for alot of things, but NC State does get pissed for drinking and so on. It just depends on where you work/ go to school.

here's a simple solution, when you get busted for underage drinking and the officer asks if you are a NC state student say NO.

problem solved, take you drinking ticket for being a moron, pay the $120 and have fun in the alcohol class

Seriously, I think that this change could benefit the students/people that live off campus. RPD can be very slow at showing up to a report or for help.

Hopefully this means that I could call the NC State police instead.

campus police are real cops people .. not mall security ... they can, and will bust you

this is nothing new, jurisdictions aside, if a campus police officer ventures outside of campus and has reason to bust you, they will or RPD will

obviously, campus police are not going to be called in for a noise disturbance at some random apartment, but if youre anywhere near the vicinity of campus, jurisdiction for them is not a forcefield and will not keep them from writing you a ticket, or having RPD do it for them

however, even outside of city/county lines, police officers can report anything youve done to campus, and you could even face the judicial board for something that has nothing to do with nc state or its boundries

It's a total double jeopardy scam, but it's the honest truth that it is what they do.

You need to think logically for a minute. Who is harmed in this situation?

1) Underage drinkers who want to be stupid and do so in public.
2) People who think they can drink and drive.

Everyone else is profitting. I'm all about letting college kids be college kids but stupid is as stupid does. If you're underage and dumb enough to do it at a party that might get busted that's the risk you take. You do the crime, pay the fine and shut up. Noone wants to hear you whine.

If you think you can drink and drive I have a problem with that. I don't care if you've can drink 10 beers and still drive straight. It's perception because one day that might be true but the next it's not and you kill my girlfriend or me. Sorry man, you just aren't worth the risk to me.

If you live on campus and want to go out for a night of drinking. WALK. Sure you might stumble back home but EVERY SINGLE RPD officer I know that say you stumbling would make sure you're okay and usually offer to take you to your dorm after making sure you weren't under age. The only people any of them have said got a ticket are the biligerent angry drunks who have no business drinking in the first place so there again you get what you deserve.

Stop and think. It doesn't take long. If ya gotta go out and drink have a DD! IF you MUST drink and you're underage... do so in a private place where you aren't going to get busted. Going bar hopping with fake ID's so look cool to friends is just stupid. Jesus get a life it's just beer.
