i purchased 2005 last year. must be a new version out or coming out soon and it keeps telling me that its critical to update ($49.99) to that version in order to stop NEW viruses and spyware that werent previously detectable.

Is it imperative that i do this?

You could do that, or you know, get it for free at:

http://ncsu.edu/it/antivirus/

Just make sure you update the virus defs.

Sometimes you can get Antivirus for free from you ISP or AVG is an excellent free solution
