are there any legit programs that allow you to import a DVD and convert it into an mpeg? I had something that compressed movies down enough to fit onto PDA's but i'm looking for something that you can control the compressionwhile i wait for a response....[Edited on October 27, 2005 at 11:24 PM. if the dvd is encrypted no legit program will do it

ok, what program that isn't legit that will work?i just read some where on google that if you use DVDbackup to back it up to your heard drive it will decrypt it. is that possible?

yeah, i usually use dvdshrink to rip themhttp://www.doom9.org is the best website to find programs and information

i was thinking dvdshrink but i thought that just copies the disc? i'm basiclly trying to import it into quicktime pro

div/xvid is the best compression/quality ratio. pda's should be able to play it.

trying DVD decrypter right now....about 50% through one disc. (what sucks is its not even a movie i wanted to improt. just the only movie within reach )

ok both that and dvd shrink didn't work the way i expected. It just copied the DVD disc file for file. I'm trying to convert it into just a single movie file like mpeg that would play in any media player.

i'm using DVD decrypter to transfer the dvd as it is to my hard drive minus all the encryption stuff.then using DVD ripper to convert it all into a single mpeg file however about 25% through a full 2.5hour movie the program gives a buffer underrun error. I had changed the buffer from 112kb (recommended) to 1024kb before that but it still fucks up. any ideas?

i went the easy route and got a windows devicemedia encoder for the win

media encoder? that has nothing to do with it. when i import a DVD to decrypt it its in the exact same format that nothing but a DVD player can read. The step with DVD ripper is just converting it so windows can view it in media player. which is what i'm having trouble with. so even if i had a winPod it still wouldn't work. moving it to the ipod is the easy part.but i'm also importing all my movies so i can have them stored on my external hard drive and can watch with just a click of a mouse.[Edited on October 28, 2005 at 6:46 PM.
