If I wanted to save a video from http://videos.streetfire.net/ to my hard drive, what software recommendation or other tips would any of you have to offer? I've tried a few things with no luck. Thanks.

The software the site is using won't allow you to download the video as a file. You can get around that by using a program that "sniffs" out the WMV data and produces a saved file.http://www.wmrecorder.com/index.php is one of the better ones

if you use firefox go to tools > page info > media > find the file you want, and click the save button at the bottom.I think this is default, but if not, then I think the web developer extension is the one that would have gave me this option.... but like i said, i think it comes standard.

if you do that in this situation, it probably will only save the wmx or whatever that little pointer file is that loads the actual wmv from the remote server[Edited on October 28, 2005 at 1:08 AM. Reason : s]

You could always use a program like Camtasia to record the movie file. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to set up, but I used to use it all the time to "convert" quicktime files to divx and record real streams that aren't otherwise recordable. What it does it essentially take a screenshot of whatever area you tell it to 30 times a second (framerate is user configurable of course) and records from the line in of your computer and creates a divx file from that. So it's wouldn't be an exact copy of the file you're trying to download, but you end up with a pretty decent copy. It may not be the easiest solution, but I know it would work.http://www.techsmith.com/[Edited on October 28, 2005 at 5:07 AM. Reason : .]
