10/26/2005 11:55:27 AM
should have been downtown.
10/26/2005 11:57:02 AM
Kinda weird building it apart from the other tall buildings in Raleigh...
10/26/2005 11:57:22 AM
^^ why?
10/26/2005 11:58:59 AM
the article about it in june(or around then) gave more details about what will be in it
10/26/2005 12:00:20 PM
it'd be nice if it were downtown, though raleigh doesn't really have one
10/26/2005 12:00:29 PM
yay!! yet another way to bring more traffic to an already severely crowded intersection!!!!they better redo that whole strip of glenwood from creedmoor to the beltline before they build that thing. it already takes 15 mins to get from creedmoor to the beltline during rush hour.
10/26/2005 12:02:15 PM
Yeah build that shit downtown. We don't have a lot of tall buildings, might as well put them all in one place to give us at least a half way decent skyline.I mean, Winston-Salem has a better skyline than Raleigh
10/26/2005 12:02:53 PM
yeh..downtown would have been a much better place for it. there needs to be more tall office buildings and whatnot down there. especially if that metro gets built..
10/26/2005 12:02:59 PM
10/26/2005 12:10:29 PM
a more impressive skyline. on a good clear night, you can see downtown raleigh from as far away as hodge road in knightdale (on the eastern side). and if they stuck another tall building down there, hopefully it could invite some of its friends and we could finally sack up and start competing with charlotte.
10/26/2005 12:11:04 PM
that's a really bad reason, when the economic climate of downtown clearly will not support it, which is why it's being located where it is... proximity to the RBC center, as well as an upscale mall.
10/26/2005 12:16:27 PM
aesthetically it would be better in "downtown" properand traffic is already a nightmare at that part of Glenwood
10/26/2005 12:17:07 PM
We need more tall buildings or Spiderman will never be able to operate here.
10/26/2005 12:19:58 PM
downtown would not be able to support this building. Crabtree with its location and the things around it will be perfect. The property will be cheaper also; vers downtown.
10/26/2005 12:20:52 PM
Crabtree sucks, it's an old mall now compared to Southpoint and TTC.
10/26/2005 12:28:19 PM
i dont understand how this project got approval, yet any proposal of a decent size downtown is objected to so strongly. all the money going into building a new convention center, and all the business travelers they want to bring here, yet no decent sized hotel to house them?and yeah, glenwood traffic could do without this.
10/26/2005 12:30:46 PM
it may be old, but it's still more upscale than southpoint or TTC, and bringing in more and more such shops. This new hotel will only further facilitate that.
10/26/2005 12:31:25 PM
Crabtree is the best mall around by quality of stores
10/26/2005 12:34:02 PM
10/26/2005 12:34:13 PM
Downtown Raleigh is picking upThey need to work on the roads, though.
10/26/2005 12:35:45 PM
anything is better than that rundown Sheraton that's sitting there now
10/26/2005 12:36:23 PM
I guess I just don't like North Raleigh. Glenwood is turning into Capital Blvd, I've gotten to where I hate driving on either of them equally. A 42 story building beside a 2-3 story mall is gonna look odd.Southpoint is much nicer than Crabtree will ever be unless they do some serious renovations to it.Doesn't matter what I think though, sounds like the city has already made up their mind to proceed with this abomination of a project.
10/26/2005 12:37:58 PM
A local company wants to do millions of dollars worth of business in Raleigh and all people can think about is how they won't be helping the skyline. This ain't charity work folks. They are going to put it wherever they think they can make the most money.
10/26/2005 12:39:57 PM
10/26/2005 12:40:45 PM
I guess nobody told city council that a Marriott was going up by the convention center...
10/26/2005 12:43:38 PM
what's going on with that big fenced off building next to crabtree with the blown out windows?
10/26/2005 12:44:02 PM
they are building something library height right across from the bomb squad downtown
10/26/2005 12:45:22 PM
^^ that's coming down, and this is going up in that spot.
10/26/2005 12:46:34 PM
I guess that those people in the condos won't be stone throwers.
10/26/2005 12:47:56 PM
how and when are they taking it down?
10/26/2005 12:48:11 PM
I heard they're gonna hire Al-Qaeda to bring it down. They have some of the best building demolition experts in the world.Don't know when, though.
10/26/2005 12:50:12 PM
PEOPLE FUCKING DIED BECAUSE OF YOUR JOKE BOBBY
10/26/2005 12:52:59 PM
there are a tremendeous amount of prodjects about to begin in downtown. there is around 3 billion in investment towards it. Think of downtown raleigh as being like charlotte 15- 20 years ago. Don't write it off yet. These prodjects will do nothing but spark new ones. There is a large tower in the works for downtown, it will be for a large bank[Edited on October 26, 2005 at 12:54 PM. Reason : not sure if it is public knowledge yet...]
10/26/2005 12:54:00 PM
that mariott downtown says its going to be 400 rooms. that doesnt sound too big.i had heard of a proposal at least the same size as this crabtree one, to go up near the new civic center, that got shot down.
10/26/2005 12:57:27 PM
10/26/2005 12:57:59 PM
^^^hmm.. what bank?I know CSFB is investing heavily in this area, but AFAIK, that was only going to be in RTP. I've also read that Wells Fargo wants to have a larger east coast presence, but haven't heard anything specific.[Edited on October 26, 2005 at 12:59 PM. Reason : asdf]
10/26/2005 12:58:55 PM
There will be a new connvention center hotel/midrise.
10/26/2005 12:59:04 PM
http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/2824640p-9273811c.htmlHere is a much better story with some picturesI wish it was downtown, cause that would cool[Edited on October 26, 2005 at 12:59 PM. Reason : h]
10/26/2005 12:59:27 PM
10/26/2005 1:02:20 PM
charlotte still has the best skyline
10/26/2005 1:34:41 PM
^^^^^RBC is going to build a new headquarters downtown. no real details on the project yet though.
10/26/2005 1:46:03 PM
This "tallest" building would be like 6th tallest in Charlotte. lame.
10/26/2005 1:56:33 PM
10/26/2005 2:00:25 PM
I don't think anyone's trying to claim that Raleigh is a bigger city or otherwise could compete architecturally with Charlotte.

Not to burst peoples bubbles but uh... Charlotte, though nice skyline, has one of the worst fucking road systems I've ever seen. That shit was put together by some blind retard having an epileptic seizure. Raleigh, thought suffering from similar issues, does make sense overall downtown if you look at the overall picture and traffic flow. The only issues I'm worried about in Raleigh are what others mentioned, with the traffic flow currently on glenwood by Crabtree. I leave at 4pm everyday and it's already bad. I've been through it once or twice at 5:30... jesus christ. Plus that's mostly caused by backed up traffic on 440 because of the bottleneck between wade ave and 40/440. Not to mention that hillsborough st will be changed to no lights and those roundabouts which will cause traffic to have to take other routes. I honestly believe if they would take care of that bottleneck it would solve a LOT of issues in the area. They need to add 1 more land all the way through. And change the western blvd entrance ramp to not join on the left side. Kmart has an entire acre of parking lot it doesn't use that could be expanded into to allow the space.
10/26/2005 3:29:39 PM
I'm surprised it passed, but pleased at the same time. It is rather odd siting, but the design looks promising. I do feel bad for the neighborhoods that will be in its shadow though...And downtown is not getting left behind. Besides the new mariott, there are also plans on the table for a 30+ story building to go up across from the Radisson on Hillsborough.I do question how a 42-story building will only be 30 feet taller than a 32-story building (two Hanover).
10/26/2005 3:49:45 PM
Isnt another main reason for building this that we were promised the NHL All-Star game if we had a 5 star hotel?
