I don't have the tools. It's a 96 camry. May need to turn the rotors. Only really need it done to pass inspection. This is a beater car, and I'm not going to have it for long, so paying shop prices is not desirable. If you can do it before 11am on weekdays, b/w 1-4pm this saturday, or any time on sunday, please pm me with how much you will do it for. I can supply the pads.

$100 and a signed liability waiver.
10/25/2005 11:06:07 PM
you wouldnt try to rip anyone off would ya
10/25/2005 11:16:35 PM
for $100, I might as well go to a shop or buy the tools and do it myself.[Edited on October 25, 2005 at 11:22 PM. Reason : sdfkj]

Exactly. Get a cheap wrench/socket set, a big C-clamp, and a Hayne's or a Chilton's. Shouldn't take more than an hour. You asked for offers, that was mine. Not trying to rip anyone off, just saying that's what I would do it for. $30-40 for pads, 1 hr +/- 30min, depending on if the caliper pistons decide to be bastards. Looking at $50-60 for labor. Probably not going to find many people that feel like getting their hands covered in a complete stranger's brake dust for much less than that. But seriously, it is something you can do in your parking lot/driveway with that jack that came with your vehicle and some time. Good luck either way, seriously.
10/25/2005 11:34:30 PM
^^good luck getting a shop to do it for that.^don't pay any attention to these idiots around here, just enjoy the entertainment of ignorance.
10/25/2005 11:39:59 PM

10/25/2005 11:42:55 PM
I was referring to the elitist attitute in the Garage of all the places.ha half the mechanics can't even get *this* close to doing anything worthwhile like running the country. But yea...I am hoping to get a reaction.
10/25/2005 11:44:08 PM
^true dat. an exceptionally large amount seem to gather in this forum though.
10/25/2005 11:44:13 PM
true datthere's no bigger idiot than an elitist.Who is just really good with grease.
10/25/2005 11:44:50 PM

10/25/2005 11:50:16 PM
yeaeither help the man who made this thread.or just gtfo with your elitist attitudeand "backing up"God you are all so deep in that grease canister with your bullshit.
10/25/2005 11:53:20 PM
easy money my ass. maybe for just changing pads, but you're bringing in turning rotors also. if i was still doing sidework, i wouldn't touch it for any less than $75.
10/25/2005 11:56:02 PM
^^Damn... I was just trying to offer to help the man and all this BS followed?? esgargs... how bout you get your hands off the keyboard and get 'em dirty, and learn to keep politics and philosophy and all that other BS out of the garage (not the forum an actual garage, if you've ever been in one). The only thing that matters in a shop is sparks flying, wrenches turning, and good old fashioned WORK. And for the record, I've never met anyone who could turn a wrench worth a damn who could be termed an "elitist."Sorry dude, I hijacked the hijack... I'm off my soapbox and try to get you back on track now: BUMP for the man trying to get his brakes done.[Edited on October 26, 2005 at 12:01 AM. Reason : .]

Back on track... whew! If you're not going to have the car for long, don't bother turning or replacing the rotors. If you're not being shaken to death everytime you try to stop, then you can get by with just new pads. If the rotors are warped, they'll burn through the pads much faster, but you said it was a temporary beater, so don't worry about it. You can get the cheapest pads at any parts store for like $30. Were you failed at an inspection station for brakes? If so, what was the criteria they failed you for?
10/26/2005 12:14:39 AM
Do they really check brakes at inspection? All that was checked for my car was emissions.
10/26/2005 12:18:13 AM
^^ no, i haven't done the inspection yet. I assume they would fail me if they are squeaking. If you fail the inspection, you have to pay for the redo -- is that correct?
10/26/2005 12:24:38 AM
if you fail, you pay the labor (20 bucks). then when you get it fixed, they reinspect and you only pay the other 10 for the sticker. either way you're only out 30 bucks.
10/26/2005 12:38:14 AM
10/26/2005 9:15:43 AM
If I was still single and had time on my hands I'd do it. Wife = ball-n-chain ...
10/26/2005 9:23:37 AM
^^^ in regards to my comment above...most places will give you 30 days or you have to pay in full for reinspection.
10/26/2005 10:00:24 AM
i do it for you if you were a hot chick
10/26/2005 10:02:14 AM
^^^ I can occupy your wife while you do it
10/26/2005 10:14:09 AM
10/26/2005 10:18:36 AM
so the other half of the mechanics ARE close to running the country? did i miss something on CNN?
10/26/2005 10:26:40 AM
You buy the pads, and bring the car to me, and I will do it for $35.Honestly, your car won't fail inspection if it still stops. Some breaks squeek right out of the box, so that alone can't fail you.
10/26/2005 10:29:51 AM
^^ lol. yep, ol jimbo from the discount muffler shop down the road just about has the national debt cleared up. and you oughta hear his thoughts foreign policy
10/26/2005 10:56:44 AM
10/26/2005 11:34:18 AM
You are more likely not to pass for bad windshield wipers than squeeky brakes. I would worry about the brakes afterwards, but get to them soon because a fucked up braking system can be pricey.
10/26/2005 4:26:57 PM
^^^ ahaha[Edited on October 27, 2005 at 11:56 AM. Reason : if you wreck the first time your brakes go out you shouldn't be on the road in the first place imo]
