^^Basically. Was also wondering if pryderi's head would explode if his earlier thread became a reality, since it would simultaneously give the GOP a fighting chance in 2008 *and* boost Bush's job approval by 10 points over night...And after reading this:http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/25/politics/25leak.htmlI wouldn't be surprised if it's in the works
10/25/2005 3:57:48 PM

10/25/2005 4:24:28 PM
if cheney actually steps down for any of thispryderi would splooge all over himselfthen bitch about whoever replaces him
10/25/2005 4:34:40 PM
^^ Explain how this would reflect well on the GOP's chances in '08, or boost Bush's approval at all.
^With respect to the GOP in 2008, it's the same as the NCGOP in 2004 -- without a clear front-runner, Republicans tend to viciously attack each other over philosophical issues and then fail profoundly after the primaries (Democrats, by contrast, generally agree on philosophy and squabble over tactics instead...far less bloody politically).Anyone who seriously doubts Hillary won't capture the Democratic nomination if she decides to run is deluding themselves; the GOP's only hope is a clear-cut candidate. As for W's approval numbers, it would instantly signal to the wobblies in his base that negative things like the Miers nomination / the CIA leak "scandal" (to the extent anyone knows/cares about it) / etc were all really part of some W Master Plan now coming to fruition. At which point the previous attacks on his judgment would be replaced with "Oh, so that's what he was thinking".

Cheney's involvement gives them a clear front-runner for '08?I must be confused.
10/25/2005 5:00:13 PM
[no], making Rice the VP gives them a clear front-runner for 2008. There are 2 parts to the conspiracy here...
10/25/2005 5:06:36 PM
Rice as President?Ok.Now I know Republicans really have no hope.
10/25/2005 5:13:14 PM
having a black woman as the repulican candidate will make for a huge dilema for a lot of bigots
10/25/2005 5:15:29 PM
^^It's been talked about for 5 years now, I don't really think it's a desperation thing.

How is that? I don't know how many ways to say 'no' in this town" or "I don't know how many ways to tell people that I have no interest in being a candidate for anything. ... No."
10/25/2005 5:53:51 PM
good god, that election would probably cause this country to explodewhite female dem vs. black female repubBIZZARO
10/25/2005 6:41:52 PM
^^C'mon man, I swear you're slipping in your old age You know as well as I do that something as rare as a VP stepping down would be all Rice needs to explain away the "I'm not interested" comments [Edited on October 25, 2005 at 6:56 PM. Reason : Especially when Hillary has her own fair share...]

10/25/2005 9:08:25 PM
The 2008 nominee could be pro choice easily, survey usa did poll recently of SC republicans and only a little over half are still pro-life.
10/25/2005 9:31:45 PM
Not exactly an election year...
10/25/2005 9:33:45 PM
^you expect that number is going to go up over the next three years, when it has been trending down for last 30?
10/25/2005 9:38:32 PM
In the runup to an national election, yes.
