I have a set of 17 in. OZ P1 rims on my car and the coating is coming off in a lot of places which makes them look like shit. I want to get them either painted or powdercoated black. Which is better?

Def go powercoating if u can afford it, but its a cheap alloy some places wont do it beacause of the heat involved in the process. I painted my stock spec-v rims graphite and they looked great. but it takes alot of coats and paitence. If you go the painting route, get the real stuff. The Dupli-Color wheel coating avaliable at Advance, etc.

If you can afford it, powdercoating is so much better it ain't even funny.Powdercoating is basically a thermoplastic, and is well nigh indestructible, as stated earlier. It also requires the least amount of effort for the best finish. As in take them somewhere, have 'em done, and put 'em on.All you do is blast or clean really well (NO remnants of paint or previous coating), static charge, spray with powder, oven bake. Lots of folks actually preheat smaller parts prior to spraying; the powder begins to melt right away and adheres better with less loss. Some do-it-yourselfers have done it at home with a regular oven, but you can forget ever cooking in it again. And for god's sake, don't do it in the house!
