Had car trouble trying to get to school this morning which resulted in my car dying as I was trying to head out of my apartment complex. I finally got it started again and drove back to my building. Yesterday, as I was driving somewhere it tried to stop running as I was driving down Cary Pkwy. (like wouldn't accelerate or continue to go after I gave it gas) I don't really know what could be going on with it - oil levels are good, temp gauge looks normal, my check engine light is on, but as far as I know, it's due to my EGR valve. When it idles, it's around 1 rpm, and sometimes dips below that (when it does it acts/sounds like it's going to die)... when I give gas to up the rpm's I get light grey smoke coming out the exhaust - that smells like burning. My dad was saying over the phone that I could have a problem with my Fuel filter (hasn't changed it in the past 3 months or so), or there could be water leaking in the engine... but I have no idea. This car has a problem with eating oil like tomorrow - and there probably is a leak somewhere, but we just haven't had time to pin point the problem. So, I'm stuck at my apartment not wanting to drive my car because I fear that it'll stop on me again. I need to find a mechanic that's reputable somewhere close to Jones Franklin (Sumter Square) that I can get this thing to hopefully today. It's a 1995 Geo Metro with 107k miles on it. Other than the alternator belt breaking, I've not had car problems. Any help?

with the oil consumption, sure it's not blueish smoke coming out not grey?

Could have been - I only caught the color by looking in my side view... the rear window was covered in dew so I coudn't get a good look. It smelled like something was burning, but not the strong typical burning oil smell...I could go back outside and rev it up to see what's coming out

I'm taking this damn car back to the garage.... it's been acting up ever since Monday... smoke billowing out the tail pipe and it's got the worse knock I've heard yet today. Wish me luck... because I don't have the money to go out and get a new car... which is probably what I'll have to do

Sounds like you need an engine. Badly.I can look at it tonite if you don't get by a garage today. But it will be at least 8:00 before I can get to it.

greyish white smoke and/or a knock = new engine, but look on the bright side, you could shoehorn a briggs and stratton in there for cheap and pick up a few horsepower

1 rpm huh, sounds bad bttt so you can get it fixed

Disposable engine.Call Japan Direct and see if they have one for it. Fuck reman. Car's not worth it.I do engine jobs, and can put it in for a decent price.I doubt seriously you'll get out of this for under a grand, so you may want to weigh other options...like getting another car.

I thought you had a '57 Chevy

I do have a '56 Chevy... that's the car I take to shows and beat around in on the weekends when I'm at home. The Metro is my daily driver that's a POS. It tried to die on me yesterday on 440 of all places going to work. I've got to get another car. Keep an eye out on good deals ~2k that are decent because I'm about at my wits end with this thing.
