I stopped taking birth control maybe about 6 months ago (I'd been on it about 5 yrs)... and recently decided to go back on because I have endimetriosis and the pain finally caught up with me again. Well, I started taking it 3 weeks ago and I'm at that pms stage and I am so overly emotional it is ridiculous. When I start laughing I start weeping... it's horrible. And I don't know anything else that would have changed my body chemistry other than the hormones in the birth control. I don't remember having that problem when i first started... does anyone know if that is normal and if it'll just go away after being on it for a little while?

sounds like your hormones are f^cked up....it may go away once your body adjusted..but you should talk to your doctor...
10/22/2005 4:32:49 PM
definitely talk to your doctor about it...BC used to make me all kinds of moody and crazy but i found one now that works well for mealso recommend reading this thread...i made it after having similar problems and man did it take off with some great testimonialshttp://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=248776

i would think going off and on in such a short time would make your body freak out
10/22/2005 4:54:43 PM
Def. go to a doctor, or get carried to oneGoing off & on so quickly could make some seriously weird stuff go down.Thank God I'm a man.
10/22/2005 5:02:01 PM
go to your doctor and see if you can try a different type. that's what worked for me.
10/22/2005 5:06:14 PM

BIRTH CONTROL IS A SIN
10/22/2005 5:36:13 PM
i got off the pill for about 3 months (after 5 yrs of regular pill-taking) due to money constraintstwo months ago i got back on the pill, and it sorta spiraled me into this depression that has taken until now to come out of...granted, alot of stuff was going on in my life, but i don't think going back on the pill helped anyask your doctor if it's normal (i'm guessing it is), and take care of yourself...it may be a bumpy ride
10/22/2005 5:42:30 PM
being overly emotional when you first switch is normal for some peoplei've switched bc several times to find one that didn't kill my sex driveand every time i switched i had a week or 2 of crazy moods and cryingbut if it lasts i would ask your dr.
10/22/2005 5:44:29 PM
As I'm sure you know, different brands of oral contraceptives have different tested and proven effects. For instance, you get on ortho tri cyclin (sp) if you want to clear up your face and etc. Just consult your gyn and she/he will put you on a different kind with less severe mood swings. Good luck
10/22/2005 6:26:54 PM
damnI am not trolling or anythingbut all this fucking up with nature just to enjoy some fucking deep dicking.
10/22/2005 6:30:39 PM
When I was on the pill if I wasn't outrageously pissed off I was crying. Those were the only moods I had. It was awful.
10/22/2005 6:31:39 PM
go to the doc

my girlfriend has emotional problems with birth control sometimes. She's switched to low-hormone pills, and that's seemed to fix alot of the problems.and gargs, you gotta understand man, sex is REALLY important to some people. yes, that important. it sure is to me!if they had a pill for men, I'd take it. Not only that, but I'll probabyl save my "seed" somewhere and get a vasectomy when I get married, so that i can REALLY make the decision as to when i have kids [Edited on October 22, 2005 at 7:38 PM. ^^^^ There are more reasons to take birth control than just fucking. Some girls estrogen levels are too low, this can result in irregular periods and increased risk of osteoporosis.And... you ain't got to pull out
10/22/2005 9:57:39 PM
^ I got put on BC for anemia and it ended stabilizing my mood. Not getting pregnant is just one of those great side effects.
10/22/2005 10:23:02 PM
yeah but you started out crazy
10/23/2005 12:39:31 AM
endometriosis? how did you come to that diagnosis. surgery may be able to correct the problem (remove the tissue) -- ask your doctorFYI-- endometriosis is presence of endometrial tissue in some other place than the endometrium (outside the uterus). therefore you can have problems around your period. do your symptoms stop after your period?do you have any of these sx? where is your painPelvic pain, Severe dysmenorrheaDyspareunia (vaginal)Dysuria (bladder)Painful defecation
10/23/2005 12:40:58 AM
haha... birth control is a sin! whatever! Not getting pregnant the first chance you get is a sin....anyhow... thanks for the general consensus that i need to go to the doc. As for the endometriosis... yes, I take birth control for it. one of the treatments is hormones... hormones can be found in birth control. Taking pain killers and other stuff are also treatments... I guess mine isn't bad enough for surgery, and if it was I probably would avoid it until I absolutely couldn't move.I found out in hs that I had it... before I was on BC. When my cycle came and a day or two before it I would be in so much pain that I could barely stand, I would go into hot/cold sweats, I would run 103 degree temps... the pain was absolutely unbareable. I would throw up a lot... going to school or work was almost impossible. Often times my parents thought I was making the shit up and would tell me to get over it and go to school... but when you are sweating your ass off in the middle of winter and the heater in the class room isn't working and you are pale as a goast... the teachers usually try to send you home. There were a number of other things that I use to go through... but my obgyn thought it was endometriosis, and after you questioned it I looked it up again... maybe that is why I have chronic pain in my back? I thought it was odd though that it took until my periods got up to 7 days again for the pain and shit to come back. I like birth control it allows me to have 3 days instead of 7.

It really amuses me that in every one of these threads, guys chime in with their opinions. People have sex...it's a basic human instinct. And yes, there are plenty of girls that take it to regulate their cycles, decrease cramps, etc., not just the sex issue. I would be willing to bet that most of the guys that have negative opinions regarding birth control have had sex or at least wanted to. The sexual revolution happened decades ago...get with it.
10/23/2005 12:44:37 PM
don't call it a revolution.

OK, so I'm thinking of going on BC. I need a pill that will:- regulate my periods- clear up my skin -- not a bad acne problem, but the occasional zit here and there is annoying as hell. My hormones have gone whack last two months - NOT make me gain weight- NOT decrease my sex drive- reduce my PMS related symptoms, especially sore boobsSo ladies, here's my question: How does Yasmin sound? And how long before I start seeing changes?I know everybody reacts to pills differently, but still, need to get an idea before I go see the GYN. Thanks!

Yep, read that already. Looking for more info, Yasmin specifically.[Edited on January 3, 2006 at 5:07 PM. Reason : grammar]
1/3/2006 5:05:59 PM
I've been on Yasmin for over 3 years now - I like it. It's a give and take no matter which pill you're on. My acne has cleared up substantially, my periods are lighter and predictable, and no weight gain (at least not due to the pill). My boobs swelled slightly when I started taking the pill (and stayed that way), so it didn't help me much with the sore boob category (I later developed fibrocystic breasts, but that's a whole other story).Try it for a few months, and if you don't like it, just switch.Oh, thought I'd add one more tidbit - although it doesn't seem to screw around with your emotions too much, expect to start tearing up a bit at things you normally wouldn't. Any BC will do that to you, some more than others, so I'd consider this minimal.[Edited on January 3, 2006 at 5:15 PM. Reason : fibro]
1/3/2006 5:12:41 PM
Ok, but that didn't have anything to do with BC right?PS: does any kind of research suggest that extremely sore boobs during PMS are a sign of something...like breast cancer or cysts in the future? I'm paranoid.[Edited on January 3, 2006 at 5:18 PM. Reason : .]
1/3/2006 5:14:25 PM
^oops, sorry, I meant fibrocystic. Getting women's ailments all mixed up It more likely than not doesn't have anything to do with BC. I didn't develop the lumps/cysts until I started drinking massive amounts of caffeine. BC (incl. Yasmin) is advertised to actually help with breast cysts (of course, drinking big cups of coffee and diet coke aid in negating that!). When I spoke to my GYN about it, she was skeptical that Yasmin caused the ailment, although she did mention that certain BCs affect the breasts in different ways. She gave me a prescription for Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, but I read some horrible reviews on how it really fucked with emotional states, so I decided just to stick with Yasmin and lower my caffeine levels.DON'T be paranoid - trust me, it gets you nowhere![Edited on January 3, 2006 at 5:22 PM. talk to your doctor... the perticiular pill you are on may not be the best combination of harmones for you and could have bad repercusions.
1/3/2006 5:50:22 PM
Weight gain is often not sincerly attributed to birth control but lifestyles. Most women who gain weight on birth control, or even who have major increase in breast size fail to notice one major thing: WHEN they started taking the pill.aka: college or high school are prime times to gain weight and also you are still developing even though you are not 'officially' in puberty. As for regulating your periods and acne that is defiantely dependent on the amount of hormones so a low dose is what you are looking for, such as Yasmin, Alesse, or Necon or so many options. If you notice a decrease in your sex drive then you need to call your doctor. Most of the PMS symptoms can be regulated with any of the above pills as well. However if they are particularly severe then you may want to talk to your doctor about skipping your periods to avoid them which means you would definately want a monophasic pill (which Yasmin is one).
1/3/2006 6:22:34 PM
i wouldnt take any pill for years regularly, i dont trust scientist that muchthey will screw you upif i were you id quite like its crack, and stay off of it until your body adjust to its natural conditions
1/3/2006 7:35:11 PM
I took Ortho Tri Cyclen for a year or so at one time because I was on Accutane. I was sooo emotional- needy, bitchy, whiny- and all other types of emotion possible. But some was attributed to the Accutane.I took about a 2 year break. Now I'm on Yasmin and have been for about 2+ years now. I was quite emotional in the beginning. But I now firmly believe that it really is dependent upon the amount of hormones contained in what you take. The lower the better. It has helped my skin, and caused no unnatural weight gain.Anyhow, you will adjust after a month or so. If it takes longer than that you should look into switching.[Edited on January 3, 2006 at 7:44 PM. Reason : m]

I love Yasmin... I'd tried Ortho Tri Cyclen and Mircette... Yasmin has definitely helped me out w/ cramps, but w/o the mood swings
1/3/2006 8:00:48 PM
i started that 4 page thread and when i started it i was on yasmin and had switched to ovcon...as you read "i was on my period for weeks it seemed." yasmin had such a low dosage of [whatever drug here] that for me, my periods were longer, heavier, and i still had cramps etc. ortho tri-cyclen made me moody with the different pill doses every week...ovcon was the pill from hell...but now after being off the pill for almost year (i let my hormones catch back up to me) i got back on and am using ortho-cyclen. so far i haven't experienced the mood swings and am happy with it. but i didn't start seeing the moody side effects of ortho-tri at first so that may change and if it does then maybe bc just isn't for me...i think it was after about a year of being on o-tri that i noticed i was a raging bitch.
1/4/2006 10:21:39 AM
Thanks for the helpful replies ladies.Ortho Tri Cyclen never worked on me the last time around (I got just 2 periods in 3 months!), so never trying that again.I'm curious, are there any side effects to taking BC Pill for a long time, like years? One of my fears is that my body will get completely dependent on it. Btw, at this point my concern is to regulate my hormones, not to avoid pregnancy (since I'm not dating anybody). So don't bother suggesting Nuva ring, the sponge etc. [Edited on January 4, 2006 at 10:45 AM. Reason : haha, it's nuva]
1/4/2006 10:30:15 AM
I use the NUVAring. I love it. I used to be on ortho tri-cyclin, but it decreased my sex drive (although my skin was awesome) and made me really mood-swingy. The NUVAring is great because you insert it into the vagina and leave it there for 3 weeks, then take it out for 1 and put a new one in. It has way less hormones in it than your average pill because of its method of getting the hormones into the body and because of its close placement to your internal sex organs, so the side effects that you normally see with the pill form of bc (mood swings, decreased labido, etc.) haven't happened with the ring for me. Plus, I don't have to worry about taking a pill everyday. And, I use the ring to regulate my cycle. My obgyn said she thought it was the best idea.[Edited on January 4, 2006 at 10:39 AM. Reason : more info.]

i'd say no. during my brief period of being on BC then going off and then going back on again my body went back to normal fairly quickly. painful yes...but normal none the less. but i suppose there is a risk like with any other drug.
