my S2000 has a VERY noticeable whine, which sounds like a big fuel pump. Now that I think about it, it seems like I remember the previous owner mentioning that he installed a Wahlbro pump (or rather had it installed, because he had tons of money and not much time).

the thing is, it's only intermittant. i'd say that most of the time you can't hear it. i've never driven a car with a loud-ass Wahlbro pump that was only loud part of the time.

any ideas? no reason to believe that there's a problem. just kinda has me wondering what's going on.

is the fuel system closed or does it a have a fuel return line?

My Walbro whines like a bitch. It depends on road noise and the stereo and all of that besides the fact that you eventually get used to it. The only time I ever notice it anymore is when I have my turn signals on, because then the whine alternates with the turn signals. If it is in fact a Walbro, they all whine (I've heard them referred to as whinebros).

^no, i know what a wahlbro sounds like, and this isn't just a case of me only noticing it sometimes. i mean, yes, there is that factor, esp since i often have the top down and/or stereo turned up, but it really does only intermittantly whine. it whined like hell for part of my trip from FL to NC yesterday, to the point that you could hear it over the stereo at moderate volume. by the time i got here, though, it was back to normal.

i think it's more on/off, but i'm not sure...i haven't paid attention the other times, and last time, i first noticed in between songs on a CD (i had some GNR set to the appropriate volume), and don't know how suddenly it started.

well, thats all you can hope for with a walbro, rattles like hell when there isnt much pressure, and whines when it gets up there. put a holley pump in there, they arent that expensive, have plenty of flow, and arent that bad to change on the s2000, if i remeber correctly. i had a walbro pump on my 72 MG midget long, long ago and it sounded like a woodpecker under the back seat, so i swapped it out for a holley pump when i put that 1800cc triumph engine in there, problem solved

duke, those higher pumps will whine. i got a 190 in my blue integra and it whines. its real noticable because the car is gutted. but the whine is suppose to be there.

thats normal

mine gets louder and louder as the fuel level in the tank drops.

i can hear my pump even when standing outside of the car

i know they whine. i know exactly what a Wahlbro pump sounds like. i just figured it should whine about the same all the time. i'll have to pay closer attention to what it does at different fuel levels and see if that's it.
