Hey look I have sent emails to the Campus Rec people and was goin to go ahead and put out the word that I am goin to try to get a Club football team organized if anyone is interested let me know and email me @tlcollie@ncsu.edu We need to get a good number of people to show up so that this will work, If i am correct sometime soon I am goin to try to put together a "organizational meeting" email me and I will let you know the rest of the details.

10/18/2005 1:29:18 PM
That is the thing right now I just have a meeting set up with the peopele in charge. At this meeting we will decide when to set up the organizational meeting which is basically where we will hash out all the details such as money rules etc... Thing is that we have to have a decent turnout at the meeting for them to back or support us in developing the team.

10/19/2005 8:32:42 AM
UNC has a club team, and at least one of the other state schools does, too, but don't recall which.
10/19/2005 10:44:54 AM
^^When it does happen, they may even let you be waterboy
10/19/2005 2:13:06 PM
I sent you an email. Back in the day, we played UNC, Duke, Appalachian St., and Western Carolina. The best thing would probably be to see if UNC is still playing, and contact them. See how they run it and get advice, etc. Find out how they deal with costs, safety issues, getting fields, etc. and then use the same proposal. Maybe even get UNC or Duke people to talk to people here. I mean, if they can have club rugby, whats the difference? They don't even wear pads.
10/19/2005 2:18:45 PM
when u used to play, did u guys wear pads or was it just tackle without pads?
10/19/2005 2:46:41 PM
LOL. Back in my day, we used to stuff leaves under our shirts. Those were our shoulder pads. And you were born with a facemask...it was called your nose. We used to have a name for guys that wore mouthpieces. We called them pussies. LOL.Yeah, we had pads. Looked just like the football you see on tv every Saturday. Our uniforms were old ones from the NC State team. Probably around 5-8 years old. I played 2 years, and the first year we had red jerseys. The next year we had white ones. We didn't have home/away, we wore the same thing every week. Overall, it was pretty cool. No one fooled themselves into thinking it was more than it was. It was more like a combination of high school football and semi-pro football. The talent level was that most everyone had played high school football. A few hadn't and some could prob. have played somewhere. The organiztion was more like a semi-pro team b/c we only practiced 3 times a week, and you were only "required" to go to 2 of them. I never liked that but understood it.
10/19/2005 2:55:25 PM
lol, well i didn't mean it quite like that. I was just saying that you can play tackle football without pads. You just don't hit quite as hard. or at least most people don't.
10/19/2005 11:46:32 PM
Thats cool. Yeah, I was pretty sure what you meant, but it took me reading it a couple times. The main thing about club football was that it was fun. I have more memories from high school football and more pride in that. The thing about club football was that I really thought I'd never play again. And there wasn't the committment like there is in high school. In high school, you practice Mon-Wed for like 4 hours a day, and then Thursday for a couple hours. And I look back on that as one of the best things I've ever done. But in club, we practiced 3 days a week, for about 2 hours a day. What a difference. And, for the 2 years I played, I was a receiver, and my QB was a guy that grew up in my neighborhood. He was a couple years behind me, but we knew each other for years. Played streetball all the time back in middle school, high school. Played flag football, co-ed flag football, and club football both years. If nothing else, its fun to look back, but man, if this actually happens, you might see this old fart out there trying to re-capture some past "glory". Maybe not glory, but why let facts ruin memories Either way, if I can help, I will.
10/20/2005 12:23:37 AM
omg, this is a great idea. i did not have the opportunity to play organized football while growing up. i actually really got into football while in college, at which point...the opportunity to play was inexistant.i attempted flag football and even TWW sunday football like a very few times, but it's as close as we could get to football. took me a while to realize the safety risks and equipment requirements that explain why football wouldn't be availble as a club sport here. but if it has existed before, it sounds hot.keep us updated
10/20/2005 12:43:31 AM
Last year during the fall and winter, me and the rest of the boys in Turlington would go out on Derr and play tackle without pads. It was tons of fun, especially when it snowed. If this gets up and going a few of them would probably join in.
10/20/2005 1:57:59 AM
Any more news? Was today the day of the org. meeting at campus rec?
10/24/2005 7:08:18 PM
^^why not do it this weekend, and every single sunday?and if i were to do this, id need pads, cuz when im in an rganized thing like this, i do not want to lose so im gonna knock the shit out of opposing playersi dont need to be gettin hurt doin it[Edited on October 24, 2005 at 7:57 PM. Reason : n]
10/24/2005 7:55:17 PM
i dont think the meeting was tonight, i didn't get an email about it
10/24/2005 9:07:21 PM
packfan08 emailed me and said he met with campus rec, and they weren't interested. That sucks. There is an alternative though, but don't know if it would be worth doing or not. It would take some effort and a LOT of COMMITTMENT. Back when I played, we weren't affiliated with the school. I've prob. mentioned that before. I don't know exactly what the "agreement" was. I know that all of our players had to be either a student or faculty at State. I can only assume that it was to keep things at the same level as all the other college club teams we played. What I don't know is whether there was any "agreement" between our team and the school. I would assume it wouldn't matter. I mean, if we can find a place on campus to practice (we practiced on frat court field), wouldn't that be just like students/faculty playing tackle football pick-up games on Miller Fields? I doubt we could play our games on campus. Back then we played home games on Sanderson's practice field, which sucked. We could always just play all games away, at least for the first season. Probably just wishful thinking. Not sure I could even get in playing shape anyway. But its fun to think about. If we tried, we do have about 9-10 months. We could start by contacting UNC's program and getting advice and rules on what we need to do, etc. and find out about all expenses. I wish we could find our old coach, who started the program back in the late 60's. His name is Jon Gibson, but I literally haven't seen him since we turned in our pads at the end of that last season. Just some thoughts....

Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to post had a long day of classes. I had the meeting today and they told me that the school is not interested in supporting another club team at the moment much less a club football team. Just as varsityblues said we could try to go about this on our on but from what i understand the only club team left is UNC. So that does not leave us to many teams to play. The campus rec. people also told me a reason they were not interested is because there are to many clubs as it is and they can not afford to give another club money because each club affiliated with the school is entitled to atleast $500 a semester. If you guys are interested let me know and we can maybe make something work. I am sure there is an adult league around the state we could try to get in but expenses will be very high. Just let me know what yall want to do from here I am up for anything if we will have enough people.
10/25/2005 1:27:14 AM
same thing about my golf club i tried to get going
10/25/2005 1:40:24 AM
packfan08, I'll send you an email tomorrow. Got a few ideas. Need to contact UNC, b/c if they have a team, they must be playing against someone. I think UNC-Greensboro has a team but not sure. I think the guy that ran/coached Carolina back then was (Lynn?) Featherstone. Who knows if he's still there but might be worth looking up. I found an old "program"-basically a roster for the championship game we played in my first year. We lost to UNC. It says the trophy presented by Thomas Pittard, head coach of Duke University Club Football. So, theres another name.
10/25/2005 2:46:33 AM
Look guys, we can still make this happen, we just won't be affiliated with the school. It might be a little expensive the first year but as an orginial member it you will more than likely not have to pay dues in the years to come. We will schedule a meeting soon to see who all is interested and go from there, if you are willing to play let us know. I will give a date of the meeting, if anyone would like to help with setting this up let me know.
10/26/2005 12:31:49 AM
