Be honest and don't cheat. The answer are way down on the bottom. The U.S. average is 7. Mine is just 13.

Quote :
"here are 25 questions about things we see every day or have known about all our lives. How many can you get right? These little simple questions are harder than you think. It just shows how little we pay attention to the commonplace things of life.

RULES: Put your thinking caps on. No cheating! No looking around! No getting out of your chair! No using anything on or in your desk or computer!

Can you beat 20?? (The average is 7) Write down your answers and check answers (on the bottom) AFTER completing all the questions.

REMEMBER - NO CHEATING!!! It doesn't matter if you cheat, actually, because if you have to cheat, then you don't know the answer, thus, you've already missed the question. BE HONEST!!!

That means no looking at your phone or anything on your desk.

LET'S JUST SEE HOW OBSERVANT YOU REALLY ARE. - If not, just have fun!
1. On a standard traffic light, is the green on the top or bottom?

2. How many states are there in the USA? (Don't laugh, some people don't know.)

3. In which hand is the Statue of Liberty's torch?

4. What six colors are on the classic Campbell's soup label?

5. What two numbers on the telephone dial don't have letters by them?

6. When you walk does your left arm swing with your right or left leg?

(Don't you dare get up to see!)

7. How many matches are in a standard pack?

8. On the United States flag is the top stripe red or white?

9. What is the lowest number on the FM dial? (Don't look at that dial!)

10. Which way does water go down the drain, counter or clockwise?

(Get out of the bathroom!)

11. Which way does a "no smoking" sign's slash run?

12. How many channels on a VHF TV dial?

13. On which side of a women's blouse are the buttons?

14. Which way do fans rotate?

15. How many sides does a stop sign have?

16. Do books have even-numbered pages on the right or left side?

17. How many lug nuts are on a standard car wheel?

18. How many sides are there on a standard pencil?

19. Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, Doc. Who's missing?

20. How many hot dog buns are in a standard package?

21. On which playing card is the card maker's trademark?

22. On which side of a Venetian blind is the cord that adjusts the opening between the slats?

23. There are 12 buttons on a touch tone phone. What 2 symbols bear no digits?

i got

1
2
3
6
7
8
10
11
13
i think 14 is stupid so i didn't answer (most of the fans in my house will go both ways)
15
16
17
19
21
(all my RODS are on the left, all my CORDS are on the right)
23
24
25

so i'll say 17 out of 23, since i'm throwing two out on the basis that my house doesn't play by the same rules apparently

I got 15

and by the way this:

Quote :
"10. Which way does water go down the drain, counter or clockwise?

Clockwise (north of the equator)"

is an urban legend. The myth is in reference to the Coriolis effect, which makes hurricanes and ocean currents flow opposite ways north and south of the equator. However, your bathroom sink is far too small for the Coriolis effect to be significant. So which way the water goes depends on the shape of your sink, how you pull the plug, and a bunch of other crap that's not related to which side of the equator you are on. Toilets are designed to flush in a certain direction.

the fan question is stupid. fans should rotate opposite directions depending on the season to either blow air on you or circulate warm air that rises up to your ceiling.

also, the merry-go-round question...wtf? which ever way you decide to push it....

^^ The problem with that question is a merry-go-round kind of means two things, the kind you can push and like a carousel (which do tend to go counterclockwise).

one I missed:
4. What six colors are on the classic Campbell's soup label? -- Jesus, I don't fucking know. I haven't bought Campbell's soup in 10 years.

7. How many matches are in a standard pack? -- what's a standard pack? "82, 82, 82 ... 246." "How many matches are in that box?" "250." "Sorry Ray, you were wrong." "Sir, there's 4 left in the box."
Even if they clarified, I would have still missed it.

9. What is the lowest number on the FM dial? (Don't look at that dial!) -- In my car, it's 87.9. On my home stereo, it's 87.5.

10. Which way does water go down the drain, counter or clockwise? -- Red Herring. Utterly false. Nerdchick is correct about the reasons.

12. How many channels on a VHF TV dial? -- wtf? How many people still have VHF TVs? Maybe my grandparents would get this one right.

13. On which side of a women's blouse are the buttons? -- damn. missed it.

19. Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, Doc. Who's missing? -- Maybe I could have told you when I was 6 years old. Not any more.

20. How many hot dog buns are in a standard package? -- damn. missed it. I knew it was 8 or 10, guessed wrong.

Ones I don't agree with (other than the arguments above):

14. Which way do fans rotate? -- If I switch two wires, the fan goes the other direction. Is this an actual standard?

22. On which side of a Venetian blind is the cord that adjusts the opening between the slats? -- The angle of the slats? (That's what I assumed they meant.) Or the distance between the slats?

25. Does a merry-go-round turn counter or clockwise?" -- I assume they mean the carousel at Disney World. But again, are they all like that?

The problem here is that none of these things have to do with how observant a person really is. For example, I couldn't get half of these right, but when I'm awake , I tend to be very alert and observant as to my surroundings and what is going on around me- this to me is what "observant" is.

How old is that test?

If the US average is 7, and the Soap Box average is 17, either the Soap Box is more "observant" than most people (by a good margin), or that test is quite outdated.

I got 17 based on the answers given, of which some are questionable.

I missed Campbell's soup by one color and put 87.9 instead of 87.7. I did the UHF dial instead of VHF for that question. I knew the answer to the woman's blouse question but still botched it like a moron.

I got the blinds question right, but it was worded poorly.
