It's playing at Galaxy Cinema now. I saw it last night and loved it. All the central character are complicated and well-drawn. Ziyi Zhang's performance as Bai Ling is outstanding. (As usual, her body ain't bad either.) Tony Leung Chiu Wai's acting is also quite solid, especially in his interactions with Zhang's character. In the short, this movie kicks ass. Come see it. Showtimes are 2:05, 4:40, 7:15 and 9:50.

There were aspects of the film that made me really like it, but there were things that really irritated me, too. A huge pet peeve of mine is slow motion in films that's shot at 24 and slowed down. I fucking hate it. At the same time, it's fucking expensive to shoot faster, so maybe it was a budgetary restraint. I dunno. The characters were interesting and the visuals were beautiful. Tony Leung is Clark Gable's Chinese brother.

For those who have seen this and are familiar with Wong Kar Wai's earlier films: Is it okay for me to watch 2046 without seeing any of his other work? I've heard conflicting reports that 2046 is a sequel to "In the Mood for Love".
10/15/2005 6:46:41 PM
2046 is a sequel to In the Mood for Love like Mallrats is a sequel to Clerks.

I rented this from Netflix a couple of months back. It was kinda boring.AND MISLEADING -- it has nothing to do with the future, thats just what's in his head. Please folks, keep that in mind.
10/19/2005 9:17:40 PM
You got it on Netflix? It hasn't been released on DVD yet. And I don't see how it's misleading. I will agree that some people will find it kind of boring, though. It's a very slow paced movie.
10/19/2005 9:22:37 PM
I only found it slow at the start. And even then it was hardly unbearably slow or anything. Many high quality movies are a little on the slow side.
10/19/2005 11:17:45 PM
I dont think Infernal Affairs is boring. I like the story . Well, you might be bored from reading subtitle. ps. There are Infernal Affairs I-III, and they are brilliant sequences.
