Is there other material besides the book that we are being tested on?I havent been to class at all and looking at the study guide it doesnt seem that a lot of the listed material is in the book.
10/12/2005 7:08:05 PM
he was trying to tell us how some questions would be on some videos that he showed. he is a fucking maniac. what kind of professor would do that. this class is ridiculous!
10/12/2005 7:49:50 PM
the people he listed that we need to know arent listed anywhere in the book!!! where is that info?
10/12/2005 10:43:33 PM
After some quick Internet searching...-Hollerith: invented the first punch-card tabulating machines; regarded as the father of modern computing-Mauchly and Eckert: invented the Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC), the first general-purpose electronic digital computer, completed in 1946.-not sure who Moore is, but it could be Charles H. Moore, developer of the Forth computer language-Gates I am assuming is Bill Gates-Gary A. Kildall: Creator of CP/M, an early operating system -Grace Murray Hopper: the first programmer for the Mark I Calculator and the developer of the first compiler for a computer programming language-Tim Berners Lee: inventor of the World Wide Web

^well done, HUGE help
10/12/2005 10:59:23 PM
Did you guys think that the online study guide questions helped you on the last test?
10/12/2005 11:02:28 PM
no way, i spent all night goin over then online thing and i think i would of done the same if i hadent even studied it
10/12/2005 11:04:07 PM
I did the same thing. I probably won't look over them this time, and then the test will probably end up being the same as the online questions.
10/12/2005 11:05:20 PM
well i dont know. i mean i studied thos questions and they definetly werent the same. i thought atleast...
10/12/2005 11:08:24 PM
I just realized something that I did for the last test that may have been the problem. On the Prentice Hall website, the book that comes up is the 8th edition. We are using the 6th edition, and you have to scroll down the page to find that one. I did the questions for the 8th edition last time, which are different.
10/12/2005 11:10:36 PM
THANKS MAN!!! I'll be in Nelson around 7 if yall wanna study!
10/12/2005 11:10:56 PM
very good point
10/12/2005 11:11:38 PM
I'm very scared of this test...what was the average of the last one?
10/12/2005 11:12:25 PM
hopefully this test wont be as hard and random as the last one since there seems to have been a lot of complaining
10/12/2005 11:14:43 PM
whats the website for the pren hall book?74 before the 7pt curve
10/12/2005 11:15:13 PM
http://wps.prenhall.com/bp_laudon_essmis_6/
10/12/2005 11:16:14 PM
I did the practice tests for the sixth edition last time and they didn't help. I even printed them out this time to look over after I went through the study guide and I could answer about 5 from all 4 chapters. So I think they are a waste of time. I am sure this test will be nothing like the study guide or the online tests.
10/12/2005 11:16:17 PM
it says this guide will direct your studies and save prep time and effort so i would assume its mostly stuff from the guide, and the guide isn't in depth much so i would go by it
10/12/2005 11:17:16 PM
Ah thanks; that should save me some time then.
10/12/2005 11:17:17 PM
i just keep staring at my notes and book and i can't get concentrate and i hate this stuff
10/12/2005 11:18:11 PM
oh where oh where did McCormick go???---> 80% A's, 20% B'sMasemore will be like 10% A's, 30% B's, 40% C's, 20% D's and F's
10/12/2005 11:19:07 PM
this is prob the most boring and irrelevant stuff i've ever had to try and learn in a required class
10/12/2005 11:19:31 PM
we should have TWW study sesh for the next test
10/12/2005 11:20:01 PM
Yeah, I try to avoid early classes at all cost, but I signed up for this one specifically because McCormick was supposed to teach it. Oops.
10/12/2005 11:20:58 PM
hey guys, what is meant by "propritary" operating system?
10/12/2005 11:23:33 PM
i couldnt find that either
10/12/2005 11:24:02 PM
^^no luck either
10/12/2005 11:25:09 PM
im just confused about what we actually need to know about all the different operating systems and all the crap he just listed on the review sheet...i just read over what was in the book and the slides but i dont feel like i've absorbed this information AT ALL
10/12/2005 11:27:26 PM
just try to use common sense on the stuff and use logic because most people are somewhat familiar with all this stuff anyways from growing up in this time, i did that and got a 90
10/12/2005 11:30:10 PM
alright...good luck everyone!!! im going to bed I'll be in 3400 around 7 hopefully if anyone wants to join me
10/12/2005 11:32:03 PM
does the lowest test grade get dropped?
10/12/2005 11:33:14 PM
^yestoo bad i missed the first test bed for real this time, night! [Edited on October 12, 2005 at 11:34 PM. Reason : a]
10/12/2005 11:34:21 PM
yea but your final counts more but this is only if it makes your avg higher, only if you take all 3 tests
10/12/2005 11:34:51 PM
If you final exam grade is better than your lowest test grade, it will replace it.
10/12/2005 11:34:55 PM
GRRRRRRRREAT
10/12/2005 11:37:06 PM
^^ That's a big "if"In my notes that groggy morning, I wrote beside "propriatary" that it's hardware ran by special software. Like Mac OS X won't run natively on X86 architecture.I know so much about technology and computers but his test is so homosexual I think even Bill Gates wouln't get a 100 on them.
10/12/2005 11:48:34 PM
i called my dad about the proprietary operating system ?s. He said that it means some operating systems are closed operating systems and can only be functionally changed by the creator, like Windows. Non-proprietary operating systems, like LINUX, are open systems where the user can command operations of the system.Thats all foreign to me, though.[Edited on October 13, 2005 at 12:54 AM. Gordon E. Mooreformer chairman emeritus of Intel Corp.Moore's Law - microchip power will double every 12-18 months (key is doubling, not # of months)
10/13/2005 6:49:14 AM
Good luck!
10/13/2005 7:43:22 AM
what did you guys think???
10/13/2005 10:08:32 AM
i didnt think it was as bad as the first.and i actually found the t/f questions to be harder.
10/13/2005 10:39:29 AM
i definately thought so, too...i guessed on a lot of the true/false
10/13/2005 10:45:22 AM
I think i got an A
10/13/2005 11:38:29 AM
i didn't think it was too too bad, but i was also finished in 20minso maybe it could go either way
10/13/2005 2:14:05 PM
I was WAY more "in tune" with the questions on this test. The first one just seemed so "far out"...I think his study guide helped me study on what was important. Plus, attending that one class that was practically a history lesson was a HUGEEEE benefit.I'll be surprised if I got less than a B
10/14/2005 2:17:50 AM
i've been to about 4 classes totalthat includes the days of test 1 & 2, the first day & some random day somewhere else before test 1i don't feel compelled to wake up early for the class, just to sit there and either doze off or do work for other classes, i much prefer sleeping in until 11am
10/14/2005 9:45:43 AM
Did anyone go to class today? What did he have to say about our tests?
10/18/2005 10:40:11 AM
I totally skipped. My 10:15am class was cancelled and so I wasn't about to get up at 7:30am and not have class again until 1:30pm.
10/18/2005 11:14:40 AM
i skipped too the grades are up on Vista though
10/18/2005 11:46:44 AM
Test 2: 93Booyah grandma, booyahBest grade I've made on a test/exam all semester Kinda makes up for the ~79 or whatever I got on test 1^ Thanks for the Vista heads-up[Edited on October 18, 2005 at 11:59 AM. Reason : .]
