ok, i'm don't want people to come in here and be like "JESUS IS A LOGICAL FALLACY@!! OMFG JESUS IS FAKE!!! OMFG RELIGION IS STUPID!!!!" but I know some people will...

anyway, I was thinking briefly today about the good ol' ad hominem to quoque today, and in the process, my mind stumbled across an example where maybe Jesus used it. Thus, I'm kind of wondering what yall think, outside of the "OMFG JESUS IS ALL FAKE!!!" perspective.

Anyway, the scenario is the passage where the people come up and ask Jesus what they should do with a married woman who was found canoodlin with a man who wasn't her husband. His response was "whoever has no sin can cast the first stone."

Is that tu quoque?

I don't think so.

although he did change the subject to include a question of everyone elses guilt, he didn't do it just for the purpose of changing the subject to avoid the situation... he did it to teach the people that it was not their place to judge and punish her.

"man who wasn't her husband" probably refers to Jesus. I mean, he was hanging out with hookers. I'd be saying "c'mon, who hasn't sinned?" too.

Last I checked Jesus and God have never sinned together

meaning they haven't doubled upon anyone. God did however impregnate the virgin Mary, a married woman. I'm pretty sure it's a sin when you impregnate a married woman, that is, if you're not the one married to her. Especially if you do it against her will or without prior consent.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHH! WRONG. Mary was NOT married when she was impregnated. Furthermore, its not really a sin to impregnate a married woman if you are not the husband. Its a sin to have sex with a married woman if you are not the husband, and while generally impregnation occurs from sexual intercourse, it is not a requirement, especially for a deity.

I"m sure he asked first. Hell, I'm sure he seduced her first. I bet her husband watched!

Good Heavens, so much blasphemy!!!

ad hominem and the like are for use in a debate of some sort, any sort. Jeasus was a religous leader, crazy man, whatever, i'm not totally sure, but in my mind he's in the same class of historical figures of Mohamad, Budah, and the ancient Zen masters.

you wana talk ad hominem, read some of the ancient koans, if the zen master responds, he'll most likely say something that hasn't the slightest relation to anything or hit you with a stick.

Technically, you just called Jesus a bastard.

So Mary was all like "yea, uh, I swear I'm a virgin. It must have been god that impregnated me. Wanna get married?" and Joseph said yes?!? Oh man, what a mark. That's the kind of person you could get to PAY you to sleep in your barn. I could see how if they were already married he might not want to look like he was getting cuckolded and so would have gone along with it.
