hopefully this is a simple problem to fix:

I turned on my laptop and the area of display on the screen is about half the size of the actual monitor. .. I did a system restore and it didnt fix the problem. Also, i noticed that everytime i turn on my computer it is now saying "found new hardware" and it is reffering to my graphics card.

If anyone can point me in the right directions i would be very greatful. i dont want to have to pay 70$ for the Geek squad at Best Buy to do a few clicks....

My suggestions-

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card.
See if the size of the display can be adjusted via the monitor settings itself - i dont know why these would have gotten reset, but you could try it that way. IE the vertical/horizontal size and adjustment. Those woudl be the first two things I would do.

Increase your resolution to the maximum supported. If doing #1 fixes it then what is happening is your laptop is not properly zooming the video. You need to look for the newest drivers for your LCD (not just the GPU) from the company that made the laptop. It usually only happens with wide-screens but the default drivers that come with Windows do not fully support all panels.

^^ just an FYI, and i'm sure someone here may have otherwise to say, but I find that on my computers when it goes "new hardware" for *anything* i already installed and it's giving me issues, the driver uninstall reinstall fixes it 99% of the time- becuase it's windows having screwed up the drivers in it's little "i want to self corrupt" way.
