this will introduce a greater motivation to post responsibly and should cut down on aliases

NO

ahahahahahahahaha
10/7/2005 2:45:43 PM
horrible idea
10/7/2005 3:33:53 PM
i like it
10/7/2005 4:56:04 PM
This is a good idea. Almost as good of an idea as a sequel to the Zorro movie.
10/7/2005 5:37:21 PM
notice all the aliases flocking here to oppose this ideaif you're worried about being able to stalk people, you could always employ a little bit of simple fast cryptography and post a hash of their IP - obviously one that wouldn't be able to be reverse engineered.OR as a revenue generator, you could allow premium subscriptions to disable the IP display. at least that way, people would value their account more (providing motivation to NOT get suspended) and this glut of aliases would at least be contributing in a much more significant way to TWW's operationyes this is a good idea. Post people's IP addresses, but allow premium subscribers to disable this.[Edited on October 8, 2005 at 12:26 PM. Reason : s]

im not an alias and i think that this is a bad ideathink of the retards that dont have their computer on lock downwhoo-hoo, i gots an IP, lemme send them a virusjust think what would happen if the people that come to get help to get virii off there computer had their ip posted[Edited on October 8, 2005 at 1:40 PM. Reason : this is the worst idea ever for this site]
10/8/2005 1:39:07 PM
there has got to be some kind of way all the alias's can be tracked
10/8/2005 2:31:52 PM
10/8/2005 3:16:15 PM
well the IP can be masked with cryptography in such a way that it is not feasible to reverse engineer the encryption
10/8/2005 3:58:29 PM
Excoriator has a point, just make it a hash of some sorti mean, if someone REALLY wants to get in your shit they will anyway, even if the IP isnt posted on here....
10/8/2005 5:11:41 PM
the people that can hide their ip are the ones that are more likely to have aliases
10/8/2005 5:17:20 PM
aliases could get around this. post through some proxy.
10/8/2005 8:20:20 PM
good thing alot of people on here are on internal networks so they'll all have the same IP..oh wait
10/8/2005 9:52:24 PM
md5 -s $ip
10/8/2005 11:02:56 PM
10/9/2005 2:15:55 AM
put the ip address under the screen names of the people in the quote box
10/9/2005 8:50:06 AM
10/9/2005 4:50:58 PM
WHAT A SHITTY IDEA!
10/9/2005 5:22:12 PM
yeah and all the people that live in an apartment complex where a whole building shares one IP will all get blamed for being alias'sif the concept of alias's bothers you that much, get off this fucking site, because it wouldn't be any fun without themloser
10/9/2005 11:39:40 PM
nevermind[Edited on October 9, 2005 at 11:47 PM. Reason : .]

I don't care for the idea, but i'm impressed by the fact that this is the first real suggestion in the Feedback Forum in quite some time.
10/10/2005 3:46:21 PM
terrible idea
10/10/2005 5:49:41 PM
I think it's a great idea. Just put the hashed IP address in with their profile or something. Do it.
10/10/2005 7:02:13 PM
yeah, its no fun without us. we keep you guessing.[Edited on October 10, 2005 at 10:57 PM. Reason : e]

Theres another board I post on sometimes that has a feature similar to this idea.there is a "user ip" button you can press on every post, and it says what other users post from that same IP address. It doesnt give out the address at all, it just says what names post from there.
10/11/2005 11:49:52 AM
that is a better idea, but it goes back to the point that people with wireless networks in their apartments all are on the same IP
10/11/2005 2:22:59 PM
yeah, its certainly not perfect, i was just saying what this other board does.
10/11/2005 2:49:33 PM
why do y'all care about aliases so damn much anyway
10/11/2005 4:11:26 PM
TOO BAD THERE ARE COLLISIONS IN MD5 THIS WONT WORK LOLLLLLLLwell... they are not relevant, but ... given that there are 2^32 ips at 16 bytes each hash, one could rather easily create reverse mapping table for the entire feasable address space that would fit on a common hard drive.[Edited on October 11, 2005 at 11:25 PM. Not sure if someone else posted this....but there is no way in HELL this would work simply because the owners make money when aliases are created...and when you ask them to do this, you are taking the food out of their mouths
10/12/2005 12:53:56 AM
^that's what i was thinking, another reason why suspensions aren't necessarily encouraged, but they're definitely not discouraged by the ownerseverytime an addicted user gets suspended or terminated, that's five more dollars in the account
