I had Black & White the original. Ran out and bought it as soon as it came out. It was bug ridden to hell though and needed lots of work.

I am gonna hold off on buying it just yet. I just got like $200 for my birthday today, so I'm mulling over picking up AOE III, Quake 4, The Movies, Black & White 2 and Civ 4 is already on pre-order,

i also got black and white when it first came out. my comp was decent but it still ran like crap and some of the stuff was just frustrating/lame. i enjoyed it, but didnt play through more than a couple of levels.

the second one looks to be a lot better, but my good comp died cuz of lightning so i might just hold off for now.

Theres already a patch coming out tomorow. It fixes a bunch of irritating bugs.

Also, once you install the patch you have to start your game over for it to work.

LAME

i agree, great concept, but it got old. i think the new one will have a little more flare and stuff to do besides dole out professions and gather wood for 2 hours.

The first B&W had a high wow factor when I first started to play it. Then I realized how much micromanaging was involved. Then I realized that my pet never learned squat. Never. Training leash and all. It may be a good game but the genre just wasn't right for me. It needed to be faster paced. How many hours do you have to show your pet how to water the fields before he does it himself?

Theres a lot less micromanaging in this game. You do some mayoring (putting buildings in the correct locations, buying new buildings when necesary), but you wont have to constantly provide for them. Just build the city nicely and they'll take care of themselves.

Also the creature will let you know what hes thinking all the time so you dont have to worry about punishing him for the wrong thing or waiting till he does the right thing to reward him. Theres no more "leash training". After the creature does something once (ie - eat a villager) you can go into a menu and set how much you want your creature to do it. At any time. Creature spells are purchased rather than trained.

I've played through the first 4 hours, and havent found any huge bugs. A couple small ones but nothing important.

i found a huge bug! my computer locks up and i have to reboot. I'm constantly ctrl-S every 5 minutes.

(and i doubt its my machine cause it runs flawlessly for everything else.) could be the drivers for 7800gtx though.

bttt

new patch...

Quote :
"EA has released the first patch for Lionhead Studios' strategy/sim Black & White 2. This rather large update brings your retail game to v1.1 and addresses a few issues that were found after shipping the game to the manufacturer, as well as a few balancing tweaks that improve the Gameplay in the Lands. Beware, save games are not compatible...

You can grab the Black & White 2 v1.1 patch (106mb) over at WorthPlaying.

So what pet is everyone using? I'm using the tiger...looks phat.

I might have to pick this one up

I played the first Black and White a lot, but eventually got tired of micromanaging the villages. I'm glad to see they've gotten rid of a lot of that crap. I always tried to be good, but my pet was always reaking havoc in spite of my efforts to train it.

I like it. Kinda graphic intense. The second stage runs really slow on my 6800 gt. maybe that fix, fixes it.

evil cow was the ultimate in hate. too bad the game got stale. i might try this if i see some major improvements. adding armies gives it more flare, but again im still not so sure.

^^ I know they have armies now, but that doesn't necessarily mean that B&W2 is more involved. I think the game could be great if they have simplified the process of caring for your pet/village/army. I realize that building up villages is sort of the whole point of the game, but I'll be damned if I feel like spending all day creating disciples and trying to teach the stupid cow not to eat its poo.

Of course I haven't played the game, so the army thing might very well be a pain in the ass.

army is the easiest thing to control in the game. grab their flag move it to the location or units you want attacked and shake the mouse to drop the flag. check back later to make sure they all haven't died

B&W 1 was badass... until I got tired of it at the second level because it took forever to expand my influence and I never stopped hearing "WE NEED MORE HOMES!"

Much easier now. Your creature has little "thought bubbles" that pop up when it's going to do something. When you see one, you just click on him, and then either pet him or slap him. You can see his attitude toward that activity move along a slider.

Caring for the village still takes some micromanaging, but hell, that's the point of the game anyway...

I just picked this up today, and I ended up spending the last three hours just playing around on the first island.

I'm just about to head there. Finished up the Norse stage at 4 AM.

If I stay on the Norse stage for awhile and build up tribute, will the stuff I buy carry over to my construction menu for the next stage?

yes

I beat the norce stage by force. I gave up trying to impress the bastards.
I beat the 1st japanese stage by impressiveness. I sent a large army up there and he pwn'd them all with some insane spell.

Im on the second Japanese stage. This one is kinda hard.

I ended up winning the Norse stage by impressiveness, even though I didn't mean to. By the time I was satisfied with my city, I'd taken over everything but the last city.

Then I sent the largest army I could gather up to conquer the last one. They walked right through the gates and started taking it over...and then his Creature came up and ripped my entire army to shreds.

So I ended up just finishing up the bit of Impressiveness I needed to win.

I've gotten to land 5 with impressiveness alone. You just gotta arrange your buildings so they have maximum impressiveness. When you're holding the building shadow, it says how much impressiveness it will have if you put it down.

Good lord this game eats up all of my time. It is, however, a million times better than the original. The creature actually does what you want him to do, and you don't have to worry as much about your peoples.

That being said, I actually had to kinda pirate my retail copy to get it to work. EA is notorious for having faulty cd protection fuck up your game, and I couldn't get it to read past the splash screen for a while, even went back and got a second copy. Basically, I had to make an image off the cd and mount that to ru the game. I guess that is legal, don't really care if it isn't though because the box is sitting right here...
