I'm thinking of getting the Oki C5200ne. The quality looks awesome but I'm not sure about the reliability.

Anyone had experience with Oki color laser printers, or Oki in general?

their consumables cost a fucking shitload, but there's not a better quality color laser on the market

honestly, if you can afford the machine itself, look at a xerox phazer

i dont really consider those as "lasers" but the solid toner system is damn near equal, and the xeroxes are a whole lot cheaper on supplies

Yeah, I used to work for Staples

believe me, the machine is a good buy, nice features for the money like dual paper paths, networking, ability to do cardstock, and they're really reliable

the only problem is there's like 10 different consumables for the damn thing, and they're all fucking expensive as shit, and some arent readily sold in stores

You've got your toner carts:

CMYK, Black at ~$70 and CMY at ~$140 a piece

then drum kits for CMYK, black at ~$80 and the others at ~$100 a piece

then a fuser unit at $140

and a damn transfer belt at $200

after you add all that up, you might as well have bought 2 of the machines initially. And it's also not like those are things you can sort of neglect until they pop up, because they're all used at damn near the same rate of attrition as the toner cartridges.

but I don't want you to think I'm dogging the machine, because I'm sincerely not, I just don't think it's suited for high volume color office printing. Based on my first-hand experience, the only machine that IS suited for it (and head and shoulders above the rest) is a Phazer. For light-duty, 1-2 user stuff, the 5200 would probably be fine for you.
